The $1 Billion Podcast Market

Podcasts are one of the most popular forms of media content today, that millions of people consume on a regular basis. It seems like everyone has their own podcast now these days, from television hosts and comedians, to reality television celebrities, athletes, and many others.

You can find podcasts that cover a wide range of industries, from nursing and policing to education, real estate, and so many more. Get podcasts that center around themes like dating, comedy, money management, crime, sports, or history. What are you interested in? There's probably a podcast for that.

In 2019 it's estimated that there were more than 80 million podcast listeners in the United States alone.

This has already grown into a $1 billion+ market, and listening for podcasts just with listeners in the United States has grown more than 50 percent this year.

Podcasts are a great way to consume content because people can do it from a variety of places, while they are on the go and walking, driving, shopping, or working out at the gym. It enables them to consume information and multitask in a different way than just sitting in front of their computer screen or phone and watching a video.

Many content creators today are adding on a podcast along with other social media channels like blogs or YouTube platforms.

Because of the highly customized niche podcasts that exist, it's a great way for creators to form more genuine brand partnerships instead of just posting a generic ad like they might on some social media platform.

Advertisement for podcasts was estimated to reach $679 million last year and more than $1 billion by 2021.

There are some podcast creators that use a subscription model instead of going the advertisement route because they do have some fans who are willing to pay for that content. One study on podcast listening found that heavy listeners, those who listen to more than 6 hours per week of podcasts, or those who are newcomers, are going to be individuals who are more likley to pay for that exclusive content or subscription.

The advertisement is also highly effective for podcasts too, with as much as 70 percent of listeners admitting that they've considered buying at least one product or service that they've been exposed to through listening to a podcast.
