A $1 Billion Budget Cut For NYPD

NYPD doesn't operate with the worst civil asset forfeiture laws in the country but it doesn't have the best either. In the last few years they've made some changes which have sought to curb abuse in that area. If those changes are effective then it would mean less money coming in from innocent individuals being wrongfully arrested, which happens to describe many individuals who have been victimized under this policy.

Further Cuts To The Money Pool

Now, police in that region are facing a further disruption to what might be usual funds with the idea to cut at least $ 1 billion from their budget, a move which is soon to be voted on in New York City.

If current policing services were required to be voluntarily funded, what would you be willing to pay for security services? Would you be willing to pay anything? What would your standards be for that service if you had to all of a sudden see and feel the money that were going toward it? Might you perhaps set a higher standard of service and look to end your payment once you weren't happy with the results?

But you don't get to make these decisions.

For the most part their budgets are still funded through means that are not voluntary and you could argue that they have been operating with bloated budgets for years. How else have departments around the country managed to militarize themselves if that were not the case. Reducing a budget that is tens of billions, by only a few, isn't going to end policing services as we know it.

If they didn't have to pay out so many millions over police misconduct then they might have more to go around.

This is a service in one region alone that is costing almost $100 billion every year. Is the money worth it? Who gets to determine that? Could there be a way to improve the service and make it more efficient so that less money is wasted? Police departments around the country that are facing backlash over the services that communities have received for decades now, shouldn't be surprised that some of those customers might want to reduce the funds and switch things up a bit.
