Lensy.io - a place for tokenized photographs on Hive

Well, I think I have a small addiction to making companies. It's part giving utility to Hive, part looking for work and money, part just living the dream of being a crypto entrepreneur... whatever it is I'm happy to see lensy.io is off the ground and looking for new photographers to contribute to the site.

What's Lensy?

Crypto art has been a growing business with investment from the likes of the Winklevoss twins. Rarible, superrare, mintable and others provide a space on ethereum for art. nftshowroom.com has a spot on Hive for tokenized art. What I haven't seen is a site in crypto for tokenizing photography. So, here at lensy.io you're able to upload images, tokenize your art, and convey private and commercial rights to the work.

What's the purpose of this?

Well, it's a place for photographers and collectors to meetup in the digital space, but it also provides some assurance to the collectors that they own a print that's a limited edition.

What gives tokenized photographs value?

The simple fact that people like and collect these things. People get favorite artists who are able to capture moments that speak to them. In time as artists are able to grow their fanbase it's possible that the demand for limited edition prints may grow, but with a fixed supply it means the price has room to grow. Some folks like to try flip pieces they think are underpriced, some people like to collect from certain artists, some people see this as a way to support friends and family, and lastly some people find this as a way to express themselves artistically either through their work or through their collection (why not both?).

Are you a photographer?

If you are I suggest going to lensy.io. Login with keychain or smartlock and then you can click on your profile. Add your social media contacts (the team will reach out through there) and get white listed (allow listed) to participate. Take photos, upload them as tokens, and bring your audience to the site and encourage them to collect your work.

Are you a collector?

It's impossible to know for sure what will happen, but generally speaking owning the earliest version of collectibles generally has some advantages. If you're interested in getting in on the very first days of the platform you have a chance if you're reading this to get the very first pieces minted by artists as they entering the scene. I generally think the value is proportional to the audience, so I look for high quality images from artists I think can generate a following for their work.

It's surprisingly fun

Whether you're interacting in Discord with photographers, collecting a set of images that appeals to your soul, or minting limited edition prints I think you'll find it enjoyable to collect and interact with others. All I can say is that I'm having a blast making markets and have some more stuff planned in this regard.

wow great job, I'll try it out for sure. On a side note, I have been waiting for 2 years for photochain to launch (similar idea), and it's super cool that you guys managed to do this so quickly.

I love it but I got one big question.

Why swap.hive and not hive? Huge barrier to entry for people who don't use hive-engine.

He did say

part looking for work and money, part just living the dream of being a crypto entrepreneur

Sharks make moves and the rest make them money.

The thing is it doesn't necessarily make him money if less people buy because they don't want to bother with hive-engine.

Well that's the thing on Hive.
It's not really a unified platform.
Everyone is working on their little community thing and the whole 'circle jerking' method of rewards is the default.

Which is why I critique it as a Cultish money game with no vision or method for mass onboarding.

It has to be done with programable money. Hive isn't very programable.

So, the only way to unlock a payment is with your keys. So, if you list to buy something there really isn't any way for me to force payment to go through.

With Hive.Engine we can program the transaction to go through and use swap.hive to complete if-then statements. If they agree to sell X at Y price send this money. Since i can't access your Hive I can't gaurentee the transaction goes through and thus it isn't trustless.

I wouldn't buy a photograph to collect it, (some would) but where i do see a use is for writers or publications to buy the rights to use a photograph for use in their publication. How many of use use free solutions for this every day but if you are doing a top quality article and want something specific or unique then it is worth spending a few dollars to own it.

Either way its a great idea and an addition to #hive.

These should be default CREATOR/COLLABORATORS services (for a fee and reward of course) but as a somewhat closed system/community they don't really add to Hive they just make sure cross interaction is difficult.

As a backbone fundamental it would be interactive multi-community engaging.

For example a person writing a cooking post wants to represent origin of their ingredients, they don't go and do that photography themselves, but if they can then tap into the work done already by a photographer, or even put out a "need media" request it would drive engagement between many worlds that exist here.

With that even mediocre services such as a banner for a new post or a new avatar for a new user could all be gamed and generate rewards for all kinds of Hive users. This is happening here and there so that's my point, that as as backbone system it brings it all together.

Anyway maybe I'm too visionary.
Maybe Hive will always be:
SHARKS cleverly capitalize.
SHRIMP shrink their holdings.

Great to have an amazing man who never gets tired buidling on #Hive called @aggroed. His profile picture of Robot Transformer really fits his personality, he never stops working and improving our ecosystem. It's a great honor to have someone like him in our team together with all the community. More power to you my man

Hi. I just wondered how you could sell full commercial rights to multiple editions of the same photo?
