Rockwell Automation and ANSYS Announce Strategic Partnership, Driving Quicker Time to Market and Operational Efficiency for Customers (Company press release)

image.png

  • Ansys, the global leader in engineering simulation, has partnered with Rockwell Automation, the world’s largest company dedicated exclusively to industrial automation and information.

  • The partnership will focus on helping customers design simulation-based digital twins of products, processes or manufacturing.

Analysis and Comments

  • Many analysts and investors see a great potential in simulation/IoT-enabled digital twins – particularly due to the opportunity to significantly cut costs and time required to develop, test and, importantly, maintain industrial products, processes, and manufacturing equipment.

  • As a quick reminder; digital twins are virtual replicas of a physical product or process which can be used to understand, predict, and optimise the physical counterpart’s performance, thus allowing companies to, for example, avoid or minimise costly downtime.

  • Ansys’ digital twin technology combines their physics-based engineering simulation technology with IIoT sensors an actuators, enabling the user to capture data and monitor operating parameters even in environments that are too hostile for actual sensors (in this case Ansys is able to accurately simulate performance).

  • While the cost of (unplanned) downtime varies widely between industries and companies, it is safe to say that it is significant for most, with the average automotive manufacturer, for example, losing an estimated US$22,000 per minute of downtime (US$1.3m per hour).

  • Following the announcement of the strategic partnership, Ansys tagged an all-time high.
