My Introduction on Hive

avatar
(Edited)

Hey Everyone!

The JOY of introducing myself, so here goes, “I’m Nine and I live in Canada. I now exist on Hive!”

There it is. You want to know more, or is that enough of me?

That’s barely a sketch of an introduction, so here is a splash of more colours added to the self-portrait:

I became interested in Hive when @ayagabriel shared a link to his art on PeakD and gave me a link to #palnet, where I’ve met so many wonderful people. I was inspired to join Hive because of the community itself and the platform. Many thanks and a shout out to @hiveqa for assisting me getting set up on Hive and supporting me, also to @ailindigo and @tripode for ongoing encouragement and support!

Exploration into anything providing me with an opportunity to be creative and learn has been a major focus in my life from my earliest memories.

My mother told me this story from when I was two years old. She had left her quilting project briefly and when she returned, she saw that I was slowly, carefully sewing stitches on the quilt she was making. She was afraid I’d hurt myself with the sewing needle and quietly watched me. It was years later, as an adult that I managed to accomplish an injury, partially skewering my finger with a sewing machine needle! 😆

There are many areas I've delved into creatively, from the simplest of crafts to the most challenging form of art I’ve ever done, miniature carving in wood, antler, horn, ivories, and stone.

Below is a miniature sculpture I carved in mammoth ivory of a decaying oak leaf. The size is slightly smaller than an actual oak leaf. The colours present are naturally occurring in the ivory material. It will move with the slightest breeze, in the same way an actual leaf moves with the wind.

Another focus that has developed is macro photography. In particular, I like to use the camera to create the experience of a painterly image.

Creating is an intuitive process of exploration for myself in which listening is crucial in order to fully realize the first spark of an idea. Attentiveness to the natural tendencies of the chosen medium is essential in order to accomplish a flowing dialogue between myself, the tool(s) utilized, and the selected medium.

The interconnected and interdependence of all aspects of life and the environment in which they exist, impact everyone and everything in varying degrees. The consequences of disconnection, separation, and isolation from each other and/or the natural environment are imbalances and extremes that affect physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health in a multitude of ways.

💧 In much the way a drop of water falling on a still pool causes ripples throughout, all life is impacted by all that surrounds it. 💧

My goal is to explore aspects of these imbalances and extremes through an intuitive connection between myself, tool(s), and the medium. In the process of which, my learning and growth occur. What I learn and the growth that occurs as a result is what I intend to bring to the Hive community. In that process, my intention is to inspire others.

Welcome welcome, very nice to have you here posting on da chainz.

The tone of your #introduceyourself post totally reminded me of this great article that @caitlinjohnstone recently penned. Pulled me out of my isolated, useless, hopeless feeling funk and served as a very timely reminder of how I, as me, can do a thing, anything and still be of use to not just myself or others.

No hill is insurmountable when you act with confidence in climbing over it, when you get out of the challenge and feel accomplished once you clamber over it!

https://caitlinjohnstone.com/2021/01/27/be-your-own-revolution/

I first came across Caitlin's writings on the steem blockchain around 2017 and was hooked. She still has a hive account here but when I checked out her page then it looked like she wasn't posting on there for several months!

Wow.. Nice introduction. Where I knew you from was actually in the palnet server I think. Were you the one that usually use joker as your profile picture or so.

Anyways, nice to have you on Hive.

https://hive.blog/hive-190931/@davidesimoncini/photochain-challenge-53rd-edition-start

The only thing: you have to adhere to some complicated - or not? - rules.

If you will join in, good luck 🙂 If you will not, good luck for your future here anyway. I Hope to see you soon on Hive 😉

Welcome to the Hive community @nineclaws!
We sincerely hope you find everything you are looking for and have found a new home here.

Seven suggestions to consider:

  1. Guard your passwords carefully, and only publish with the posting key,
  2. Use your active key only for wallet transactions, keychain and Peaklock,
  3. The owner password is only used to reset compromised passwords,
  4. DO NOT lose your passwords; copy and store offline,
  5. Do not publish other people's work, be it photos or written, without credit, and
be sure to source all of your work, even if it is your own
    .
  6. An introduceyourself tag is used only once , and
  7. Do Not open any links in memos or comments that you do not know who they belong to. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is, so the old saying goes. There is nothing free here.

I found you because @brittandjosie and @jamerussell from @heyhaveyamet presented and promoted your publication to get more exposure and help you grow faster.

If you find yourself overwhelmed and need some guidance, or if you have any questions, there are informed Hivians available who can help you; you can click to go to The Terminal in Discord here:

Have fun and happy Hiving!

Thanks to all of you for such a warm welcome to Hive and taking the time to check out my post!

A special thank you to @ailindigo, @tripode, @ayagabriel, and @hiveqa!

@ailento, thank you for your support. People are so friendly and helpful on SMILE and I appreciate that. @starstrings01, yes, I'm on the palnet server and I did have a "joker" profile for a brief time, lol!

@ayagabriel, really touched by your comments. I checked out @caitlinjohnstone and the post you mentioned. Very much on point and I enjoyed the read, thank you!

@brittandjosie, thanks for all the tips, the invite and offer of further assistance, I am definitely in learning mode.

@davidesimoncini thanks for letting me know about the photography contest. I've checked it out and can definitely do those "rules", lol. Once I get more familiarized with everything, I'll be up for entering!

@jamerussell, many thanks for the info and also the link for The Terminal. It sure does feel like a new home here and I really like it. Lots of inspiration and a cool community with so much diversity.

@branbello, thank you. The oak leaf carving took approximately around 200 hours, or more to complete.

Thanks to everyone for all the encouragement and the warmest welcome!!!

You are very welcome @nineclaws, you will do well on here; just make sure you are sourcing photos or materials not from you, and if photos and such are taken by you, make sure you state so, it avoids a headache down the road lol.
We hope you a very healthy and prosperous journey on Hive, and in life.
James

Thanks James, I wasn't sure about whether I should state a photo is mine, but am aware about identifying sources & materials not from me. All photos are mine on this post, to clarify for anyone who's wondering. I'll note this on future posts. I appreciate your good wishes!

Wow that oak leaf carving is amazing. I have a chunk of mammoth tusk I picked up years ago in Siberia and must try and carve it someday. Looking forward to seeing more of your work. Great to meet you here on Hive.

Thank you! How big is the piece of mammoth you picked up? It's hard to get now for quite a while. I'd love to see you try it out. It's very special to carve, more so than any other ivory I've tried. Really good to meet you too here. Loving the Hive community. 😃

Sorry for the delay. It has been a crazy week work-wise and I am only getting back to my messages now. I got the mammoth piece from a dealer in Siberia. It is only about 5 inches by 4 inches wide and an inch thick so I want to be sure I make good use of it. I believe there is now more Mammoth tusk that elephant tusk being sold because the permafrost is melting and exposing all the preserved ones. I also understand that there are some scientists trying to bring them back to life Jurassic Park style,
