My Entry for Insect Pub #47: "The Hymenopterans" by @whatisnew

Hello everyone! I have been watching this little winged family build their hive since day one.

I took photos as they progress each day by simply using their mouths. So it's their saliva they're using to build their hive? It looked like a very durable soil clay that I am amazed by these family of Hymenopterans!

Below the branch, I could see something lurking from behind. Well, it's Mr. Jumping Jack! This arachnid is wise enough not to get closer else he will be a good feast for those hungry builders! Their family is getting big and the queen needs to be well fed.

The cone was closed at first as you can see on right upperside of the photo. I patiently waited what would come up with this facade.

Then I saw a big opening on the base part. They seem to form a wider tube for entry with little outlets for the younger ones I guess.

Out of curiosity, I adjusted my setting to take a selfie but not focused on my face guys. This time, I focused it below facing the opening of the cone, so careful not to alarm them. I know their sting can cause problem.

There, now I know they have made a big hive inside!

Wow! How interesting that you are able to watch them build a hive. And I love the face of Mr. Jumping Jack! Thanks for sharing these photos with us @sarimanok! : )

Yeah, I was simply amazed by their creations and works of art. Actually, that was their second home. The first one was very beautiful looking but my helper burned it for fear of getting stung.
