Operation Enduring Freedom

This was the code-name given to the war in Afghanistan that started in October 2001. Well, they got the "enduring" part right anyway, as the war has now entered its 19th year, with no end in sight. And for 19 years, we've been lied to by the American government as was revealed in an upsetting Washington Post article on December 9th 2019...

Obama dubbed the Afghan war "the good war"; Iraq was the bad one I suppose... The American people however have known for a long time now that they're both bad and illegitimate wars; in the last three presidential elections they voted for candidates who promised to get the soldiers out of that war. The fact that we're still there should make you stop and think about the state of the democracy, and the conclusion should be that there is no democracy but an oligarchy in which the military-industrial complex pulls a fair deal of the strings attached to Washington and The Pentagon. After 18 years and after spending 2 trillion dollars and many American as well as Afghan lifes, what have we achieved? Nothing, that's what all that money and all those lifes got us; we were supposed to reduce poppy production, but it's up instead of down, and we were fighting the Taliban, who have more power now than when this enduring operation started.

Yet all this time, for nearly two decades now, we've been hearing the same story: "We are making progress." Obama and Trump both won their elections on a program that promised to leave Afghanistan, and you know what? I believe them both: I believe both had the intention to do just that, but I also believe they both succumbed to the power of the military-industrial complex, as they are the only winners here. Major General Smedley Butler said it in his 1935 pamphlet War Is A Racket. "It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives." How right he was...

It's ironic that national television in America is now filled to the brim with these impeachment hearings, boring the public with bickering over temporarily suspending military aid to the Ukraine, and almost no coverage is given to this humongous scandal of two decades of lies about America's longest foreign war in history. This, and the lies told to us by three administrations are signs of how ridiculously powerful the special interests are, and the military-industrial complex in particular. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have been in the making long before 2001; those of you who have followed this epic story of deceit from another perspective than the one given by mainstream media know that the terrorist attacks on September 11th 2001 gave the neocons of Bush's administration the excuse to wage the wars they've been longing for. The neocon think tank Project for the New American Century, founded by Bill Kristol, Robert Kagan and Dick Cheney, stated they needed "some catastrophic catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor" to sell these wars to the American public.

It's kind of refreshing to see this come from the mainstream for a change, but then again, it's not given proper focus at all; two decades of lies, costing the lifes of hundreds of American soldiers and countless innocent Afghans. Not to mention the 2 trillion dollars worth of tax payer's money. You can watch an interview with Craig Whitlock, the Washington Post investigative reporter who wrote the damning article below, and you can read the full article: AT WAR WITH THE TRUTH. Look, we're in Afghanistan only to secure its resources and to hold positions for gas- and oil pipelines; it's never, NEVER, to "bring peace and democracy", but always for resources and strategic reasons. This is why the phrase "The first casualty of War is Truth", rings so true. You need, we need an American president who does not take a dime from the special interest's lobbies, an Independent, and you know who that is...

Oh we were protecting the opium and heroin trade. Then we imported it with the DEA and military. Just like Vietnam.

Lost too many lives fighting people that crushed empires.
