Lotus Garden Newsletter for Homesteaders. 12th August 2020

Some good news is affecting many of the lifestyle communities this week! In fact quite a few Hive communities are benefiting from this new project. Read on to find out what it is.

Things happening in the community.

The latest challenge from @naturalmedicine is to round up stock images which can be used in creating natural medicine content.

The @ecotrain question of the week asks us why we fall in love and why it's so hard to get over someone.

image.png

At @needleworkmonday the 500HP delegation drive is still going until 24th August, so don't forget to drop your needlework posts in the community on Monday.

This week we have some extra special news, because @naturalmedicine, @ecotrain, @needleworkmonday and even @HomeEdders, have all been included in the @ocd incubation program. This is a program to encourage movement away from posting in the ocd community and over to more topic specific communities. What this means is that the moderators of these communities are able to better reward quality and pertinent content with ocd's considerable support and grow the communities through their content curation posts/reports.

Welcoming Newcomers

I came across two new accounts this week! First up is @newworldfreedom, over from the restrictions on Facebook.

image.png

Next is @tarot911, whose introduction looks at the future.

Some highlights of the week

We eat fruit and we eat vegetables, but have you ever considered exactly what parts of the plants we eat, when vegetables seems to cover a wide range? Hands up how many of you have thought of eating flowers? More flowers than we might realise are actually edible and @anggreklestari talks about letting some of her greens go to flower for their tasty nutrition.

If you're new to fermenting, then @samstonehill has just the thing with his how to on preserving vegetables via lacto-fermentation.

image.png

@paradoxtma takes us on a walk around the homestead, offering useful titbits of information along the way.

image.png

There are so many ways to compost, each suiting different situations to varying degrees. If composting with worms appeals to you then @riverflows' walk through on how she set up her bath tub worm farm could be a perfect read.

Each week one of our featured authors will be selected to be a 5% beneficiary of The Lotus Garden newsletter. This week @samstonehill will receive this award.

Thank you for stopping by. This week's newsletter was brought to you by @minismallholding.
