Digging the Septic Pipe Trench - November 25, 2019 @goldenoakfarm

Well, it’s that time of year again. These 2 arrived in my mailbox Monday evening. I have until December 22 to get my order into High Mowing to qualify for their CSS program.

My helper friend had dug down to what we thought was the inflow pipe to the tank last Friday. On Monday my son came out to start the trench and could not find the pipe. He finally found it about a foot away. Where it angles to the house is the white spot in the trench.

It was deeper down than we thought so he only got ⅔ of the trench dug on Monday. He hit the compacted gravel of the walkway and it slowed him down.

He’ll be back on Tuesday to finish it.

Reminds me of the massive hole we had to dig out to reset the water line when we reset the mobile home we are in now. Hand dug because there was no safe way to operate heavy equipment. Overhead power lines and soft soils and all that. In fact the hole repeatedly collapsed and had to be re-dug more than a half dozen times before the line was reached. My muscles hurt just from thinking about it....

That sounds like it was a horrible job! This one was pretty easy...

It's always interesting to see what you guys are up to. Digging, on this occasion. Must be rewarding to get a lot of things done yourselves.

Yeah, it takes forever for us to get things done, but we eventually get there. Pretty much all that's on the farm we have built ourselves. Except the barn, but we've renovated that three times...

I grew up in a rural (very small) town and we had animals, veggie and herb gardens plus did much of the upkeep and capital works ourselves. I learned a lot and got a lot of value from it - Satisfaction value.

I don't have the property to do extensive gardens etc. these days although still do a lot myself.

Thanks for responding. 😀
