Bees, Aloes and pollen storage!

Hey everyone interesting story that not many know, worker bees are all females, whenever you see a bee on a flower 100% of the time that will be a worker female bee.

Drones are double the size much darker and do not forage, they have one simple purpose and that is to mate with the queen. Real lazy bastids I believe 😴;).

These lovely ladies are foraging on the many aloes around the property at the moment we are well into winter now and food is scarce so the timing of the Aloe bloom annually is very welcome.

I have always loved taking photos of bees well before becoming a bee-keeper even and what a great combination aloe and bees make for pictures.

Spot the bright red pollen sacs on her hind legs. Bees vibrate, move and shake with which their array of fine body hairs cause friction which enables the micro pollen particles to become airborne and attach themselves to all of the bees extremities. The bees then "clean" themselves off and gather the pollen on their back legs for easy flight and later removal.
