BUILDING A LOG CABIN IN A DAY(While working on the homestead)

HOMESTEAD UPDATE

It isn't quite what you may be thinking. But we had a great time building it and we were working on clearing up the future home site so we killed two birds with one stone.

EVAN GETS A NEW CLUBHOUSE

The place where we plan to build our house is littered with trees that have fallen over the years, and so must be cleaned up before building can begin. That was today's mission.

THE PROCESS

And since we were going to have to be stacking them up somewhere...why not build a log cabin clubhouse, right? So we began moving logs to accomplish both missions.

For those unfamiliar, log cabins are simple enough to build. As you can see above and in the picture below, it's an easy process of stacking logs on alternate sides to create the height you desire.

Locking the logs together was accomplished by notching them into a square shape where they meet. This is done by sawing several slots next to one another and then knocking out the ridges of wood between them.

*We will also be coming back to install lagbolts to hold all the logs permenently in place.

THE "DOOR"

Since my son identifies his spirit animal as a wolf, a normal size door was not needed for his clubhouse. This simplified the process a lot.

BUILD TO YOUR DESIRED HEIGHT

So, our cabin will be relatively short as it is for my kiddo. But I assume any height is acceptable as long as it's safe. Once we reached our desired level, we put a roof on the top. This is as simple as laying logs across the top until it is covered.

MOVING ON....

In other news today, we were able to replace Evans "Batman" vine.(It recently informed me I was too fat for it...by breaking.) Here's a couple shots of us taking it for a spin...

Thanks for stopping in. I hope you enjoyed the quick update on the homestead. If you're busy making things yourself or have similar stuff you do, let me know below. Maybe leave me a picture. And as always, thanks to everyone who continues to support me and show me love. I'll take all I can get!!!

All pictures are my own, taken with my Kyocera phone.

That's a kick-ass clubhouse. Are you planning on building a log home for the main house too?

It will be our home. The arch makes it strong and being underground helps with utilities and such. Plus we will be living off grid, and I'll be trying to be as "not noticeable" as possible from the road that is about half a mile away.
