The Weekly Zekely - #HIVE5

zeke find.jpg

This officially marks my return to the Weekly Zekely as it is the first time in months, it has been only a week since the last edition!

It started as a quick trip through the photos on my phone after a week of adventure and has become the worldwide phenomenon because of the blockchain.

So, I dedicate this list top 5 picture/moments from last week to @nathanmars and our global gang sign, the #hive5 .

Would You Look At That!

IMG_9314.jpg

As I observed these hard-working colourful little dudes, a few things occurred to me:

  • When you pause to look around, it is easier to find bad to hate than it is to find beauty to love. Though looking down and pausing t see what is before your eyes is pretty damn easy. We just have to choose that course.

  • While typing that, I remembered I owe @wesphilbin a #thoughtfuldailypost this week. Locked.

  • How even cool little local insects make for better pictures than even the coolest work-related adventures during a busy week. In the grand scheme of things, they probably matter more than anything I have accomplished as an entrepreneur and that is pretty grounding.

Who Hates Mondays?

IMG_9318.jpg

Maybe it is the entrepreneurial spirit screaming out, or just the Covid talking but I may have figured out how to make Mondays awesome. Book a golf game for Monday afternoon. The Morning can be spent putting out fires that developed during the weekend and then you are free.

With the right company, it can be productive as well and a sales mentor once told me a good sales guy makes friends with people with money. I have found a round of golf with an important prospect to be the best possible quality time spent. Not many other activities combine physical activity, bettering yourself practicing a skill, having a good 4 hours to let a conversation go where it will, enjoying nature, failing, laughing, and enjoying a beer. Srsly sales guys, golf is the end game!

Speaking of Beer...

IMG_9307.jpg

I might just be down-voted to $0 by my legion of beer followers if I didn't represent. You can tell by the dirt underthe thumb nail that this is a good gardening beer. Super fresh local sour by an awesome brewery https://www.jobsitebrewing.ca/ in those perfect little guilt-free 355ml cans just helps you to take your beer strategy to the next level. A tiny beer in the afternoon during manual labour is rewarding and supporting the local brewery brings you pretty close to hero status. Gonna be a good #beersaturdsay this week, and last week's edition can be found here https://hive.blog/beersaturday/@zekepickleman/beersaturday-beers-that-tell-a-story

Antiques

IMG_9303.jpg

I have been a clearing house for antiques. Settling an estate and wanting to unload the burden of furniture off family sure has a way of turning a couple rooms upside down. A couple of these pieces take me back to childhood memories while others even farther back.

The Singer sewing machine in the upper right has a stamp on it from 1887. Made me stop an think a bit. Over 130 years on this rock and it makes it to me. Before there were cars, world wars, blockchains, and such, there was this machine. Now, I have no use for it but want to make sure it makes it to a place it can be appreciated. Til that happens, it will hang with the rest of the not quite as old stuff and I will be reminded of a time where stuff wasn't so, disposable.

Back to Nature

IMG_9279 (1).jpg

The winter feels like 13 months up here sometimes so Canadians are generally pretty enthusiastic about our short summer. I am on the same latitude as Northern California so it is not all that bad but still. It is great to pack up and get out in the wilderness and be a kid again. Instances where your head is submerged in a body of water or you can almost feel the centuries of water that has run over these rocks.

Day trips are not only fun for the family, they are good for the blog and fantastic for your soul. Despite the lock down and unsure economic times, I am planning of taking advantage of freedom and not erring on the side of financial caution. I have measured the risks and they are negligible compared to taking advantage of a finite number of summers with the family together.

That's My #hive5.....but here is a bonus

As a bit more of a look forward than back, @town-crier have finalized a deal to help local film crusaders Ballinran Entertainment https://www.ballinran.com/ evolve Queen of the Square https://queenofthesquare.ca/ with the launch of the new Movies Under The Stars: Parking Lot Edition https://www.stratfordbeaconherald.com/news/local-news/city-council-press-play-on-new-drive-in-theatre

Should make for some amazing stories of community resilience as we d our part to move things back to normal, safely while bringing back an age gone by. Stay tuned!

Once again... another wonderful #thoughtfuldailypost brother... LOVE the antics!! [Edit: and antiques lol] And...

Til that happens, it will hang with the rest of the not quite as old stuff and I will be reminded of a time where stuff wasn't so, disposable.

Amen... whether furniture, family, or thoughtful vibes... the "disposable" mindset sure rings true. My other half and I enjoy watching The Waltons... similar mindset; things used to be better.

But (there's always that but 😉) there's NO reason we can't pay tribute to those days... now. Good to see you as always my friend. !tip

They are the Coca Cola of sewing machines aren't they? I donated 2 of them to an old folks home this week and those old ladies are going nuts on them!

This antique is something else though for sure.
