Follow Friday - Where are the next wave?

Another fun week in the #Hive world. We had another HivePUD that boosted a load of accounts. Those dolphins and orcas have a big influence on where rewards go. It is not all about the whales.

The $Hive price was looking pretty settled around 30c, but the market took another dip. It is still ranking better than recenly and is up considerably on a month ago.

I have been talking to @slobberchops about the issues with onboarding people to Hive. It seems some still struggle with the process. The multiple keys will always be confusing, but it helps to detail why they are needed. There ought to be a simple way to import those straight into Hive Keychain and I think new users should be encouraged to use that extension as it makes life so much easier.

They also need to be directed to posts and communities that will give them some guidance on how to navigate Hive as well as some idea of what behaviour may be considered unacceptable. They can get carried away with mass posting, but there is little point if they have no followers. It is more of a marathon than a sprint. What we do not want is for people to give up in frustration after a couple of weeks. I think it is important to make connections with people who share your interests. Try to make it fun and not purely about money as you are not likely to earn much in the early days. People use other platforms for no rewards at all, so Hive needs to be as good an experience to compete.

And so to my #FollowFriday suggestions for this week:

  • @amy-explores is brand new here. She is into urban exploring and photography. Please make her welcome.
  • @gribbles is a fellow musician who dabbles in various styles. He recently posted some cool covers. Like me he has a card in the Rising Star game.
  • I met @edb from the Netherlands at Steemfest in Lisbon. He has a personal weight loss challenge with prizes to be won.
  • The @inkito comics dapp is progressng with @jrej working on it. It could be a great place to read your favourites as you can just flick through the pages.
  • @ashtv is busy producing videos for bands. He gets to use some cool kit for that.

Please share your own #FollowFriday suggestions in a comment or a post.

I am working on the next release of the Brit List that may be out tomorrow. You will see a big increase in active people around the UK as I have found many more. Please let me know of any I may have missed.

I will also be reviewing the @tenkminnows voting list as some people have gone way past minnow. That account is intended to support smaller accounts so they can grow. You can delegate to it or follow the trail to help out. I will not take any funds from it for myself.

Hive five, and have a great weekend.

Hey nice post. I have been thinking about it a lot as a newby here and did a post about just the new language I have encountered. I have had a great buddy to help me or to be honest I would not be here. A buddy system would be good as well as a guide and a glossary. I would be happy to help from my experience but am not sure who organises that kind of thing. Anyway it is a pleasure to be here part of a blooming community!

A buddy system would be cool. I know a lot of people help those they bring here as it can be intimidating to start with. I'm not aware of any organised scheme, but if you see someone struggling you can always volunteer. I think newbies soon get the hang of it with some help.

It is pretty funny how eager new people get when they first start on here. Sadly if they aren't given some direction and advice it quickly drops off and they lose interest. They realize it is just too much work for so little reward. I saw someone posting on Discord the other day that was new and they were asking if they should post seven times a day. Thankfully people stopped in to redirect them!

You don't want to use all your good material at the start for sure. You have to have something pretty good if it's worth posting more than twice a day. A priority with newbies is to comment on stuff they like to get noticed. Joining some communities may help too. We need to step in if we see them doing it wrong. We all benefit if they stick around.

I agree. Commenting is probably the single most important thing you can do at the start.

Cool. Don't use up all your good stuff too soon. Comment on other stuff. I know there are other urbex people around and @slobberchops is trying to build that community here.

Try to make it fun and not purely about money as you are not likely to earn much in the early days.

Unfortunately, people just don't feel this way, they make fun in other platforms for the like though. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter gives nothing, but people still love them more.

Correction, 'some people'. The fun comes from having friends or communities on the other platforms. Hive is much smaller, but we can build communities here, and I don't mean those that are just about fishing for votes. We have to start somewhere and we are the pioneers.
