Follow Friday: When you walk through a storm...

avatar

Hey hey, it's Friday! I am not keeping count, but I must have done a couple of hundred #FollowFriday posts. It has become a habit, but I hope it brings some value to others. Hive lacks good tools for user discovery and so it is up to us to promote those who deserve a bigger following. Anyone can do a post. If you do then let me know so I can share it around.

The elephant in the room is the HIVE price, which is as low as it has been since about April. I do not see too many people actually talking about this and that is a good thing as it shows this is not just about hyping up a cryptocurrency. There are plenty of other topics to discuss. We should be concentrating on building the community. It is people that really matter.

Prices
The 'other one' is not doing too great either.

What we have to beware of are toxic situations. The freedom Hive offers means that trolls cannot get 'banned'. If they have enough HP they can cause some damage. Although my experiences with the community are mostly positive I have encountered some nasty people. Some enjoy using their anonymity to harass others. It is a shame when they manage to drive good users away. Part of my reason for doing these posts is to build up the positive attitudes that will make Hive an attractive place to be. Trolls will always be a tiny minority and we can drown them out.

I think it is important that we acknowledge the issues Hive has and work to address them. We have something potentially great and it is up to us to make it work.

And so to the business of #FollowFriday.

  • @dan will be known to you as one of the founders of this blockchain. He left to pursue other projects, but has just done a new post about a book he has written. We can do with influential people from the cryptocurrency world writing here.
  • I see @the-bitcoin-dood is playing with @dbuzz. I think there should be room on Hive for micro-blogging. We could do with a share of that massive market. I think their app limits the rewards, but with so many automated votes some may feel that short posts get over-compensated. That is more an issue with the voting than the dapp. We have to find ways to make it work.
  • Musician @davidfar is posting music reviews that cover a wide range of genres. He also posts his own music.
  • @runningproject is not posting lately, but it does support some of the runners of Hive with votes and re-posts. We have the running community where you can post.
  • @fullalt are behind the HiveTips app that lets you give people HIVE via Twitter and other platforms. They have a funding proposal you can support. This is the sort of thing that can help bring more people to Hive.

What can you do for Hive?

Hive five!

@dan was before my time, but he seems well liked.. unlike 'that other bloke'. I missed all the early drama from 2016, was too obsessed with the stock market at the time.

Well hive of course needs new ideas to actually make it better. I'm glad the time of banter and hate is no longer there. I just saw @dan's post and well seems he's a loved man

I find Hive generally to be a friendlier place than St++m with less abusive stuff going on. Of course it will still be going on just because it's possible. Dan was the brains behind this technology and we have to be grateful to him for that.

Yeah hive seems to be friendlier. Away from the flag wars and the bullies going on. I could say the only thing left for hive is to move forward. We're coming totally nicely with the kind of innovation we want it just remain for it to reflect in term of prices.
Never knew it was Dan I felt it was just Ned all along

I think the 'flag wars' were not as bad as some made out. Any account has a limit to how many flags it can give out. Upvotes cost us less.

Dan was the tech guy and Ned was supposed to be the business head, but we saw how well he did at that.

I don't understand dbuzz. Some of the stuff looks really spammy. I don't have a problem with it, but I feel you should have the option to keep the stuff separate from your main Hive profile. It gives a bad look I think. Kind of like Musing used to be. I try not to look at the price. It is just depressing given all the other awesome things that are going on here.

Some may worry about the impression it gets, but it doesn't have to be any worse than Twitter. You could always use a separate account for it. Some people are just not interested in writing long blogs.

I would love to see a way to mute different communities from the main feed. Or some way for HIVE to let you filter the result you want to see. I don't post to dBuzz as much as I post to Twitter for this reason because I don't want fill my followers feeds with micro-blogging posts. I think that's the biggest downside is posting to dBuzz could get a little "noisy" for lack of a better word.

With everything that is happening with Twitter censorship right now, I think dBuzz is a welcome and much needed addition to our chain. Post earnings are limited, but it's a great way to share news, a Splinterlands battle, or just a quick thought. I suppose some people could get a little spammy with it, but my hopes are that the system doesn't get abused and I think the limited rewards helps to curb abuse.

I think we just have to ride the storm out and keep on doing what we're doing!

I have picked up around 7K more Hive recently, but that's all gone on LEO and DEC, still it's easy enough to trade back for Hive later!

I may buy a little more. Are you going to at least get enough HIVE to tip you over to orca? It would be good to increase the number.

I'm so close I think I'll tip over sometime next week or the week after anyway, so I'm not buying anymore ATM.

I've been focussing more on accumulation LEO and DEC recently as you've probably noticed! Hive has taken a bit of a back seat, but Orca is still very much the plan, not for this HPUD anyway, I'm in no rush!

Thanks for the shout @steevc. I'm loving dBuzz so far. It's still a little buggy but I think this is a much needed feature and a great alternative to Twitter for the Hive community. My understanding is post voting is limited to $1.00 per post which seems fair and reasonable for a micro-blog post IMO. I think there's much room for opinion and I'm probably going to do some sort of review post on it in the next few days.

Have a great weekend everyone and....

Happy Friday!

If I were to use it I might use an alternative account as I get auto votes on this one. That limit must be on the app. We may need the other front ends to offer filters if lots of people microblog.

At #fullalt, we also have a microblogging platform called #altyes (soon to be rebranded). So I can see the appeal of @dbuzz and was a fan Zappl on Steem. Being a social network, I think we have to embrace that aspect of it because just look at Twitter. Also we have implemented the #hivepatron into #hivetips and just made it so one can personalize their tip messages! Business talk over.

On the troll aspect, some of those trolls are massive whales unfortunately and have trodden down some real good people in the past that could have helped bring Hive into the limelight. I get the freedom of speech here, but there is a also a bullying circle that seems to not want Hive to grow, because of their own agendas, as it should and surely could. Simply minding their manners and tongues instead of pushing their weight around would be enough. So there are no bans here. The people could have stayed, true, but when you come to a new playground and see there are bullies, would you go to a different playground? That's what seems to be happening. The price would suggest we're no better off than the Sun-controlled Steem (for now). Doesn't mean I'm going anywhere 😎 Good post man.

Cheers. Given what people could make if HIVE went up again it seems crazy to trash it, but some just enjoy the power. I've stuck with it for over 4 years, so I must see some reasons to keep going. Having met so many of the community I know we have great people working with us and I want to be part of what Hive can be.

I'm going on 4 years, so you've seen a bit more than I on this chain, but like you, see the potential and am not about to go anywhere 😁

Great post... I have also not been posting lately but I still believe in hive because we have what it takes to grow... Your consistency is something I look forward to... How have you been?
