Follow Friday - On the road again

I am away from the PC again today, so I will keep this fairly short. The main Hive site is still growing in popularity. Users are fairly evenly split between it and Peakd. They lag behind Steemit, but have more active users between them.

We have to keep pushing for more users with campaigns like what @nathanmars is doing on Twitter. Use Hive Onboard to get them signed up or use RCs if you have them. Delegate to get them started.

@c0ff33a is running a meetup on the North of England in September. That could be good for recruitment. He also makes coffee, so you can have a taste or two.

For gamers there is @risingstargame if they want to be rock stars. My referral link earns me a little extra. You can use various Hive Engine tokens to buy items.

@dickturpin shares fun links from the various social media he uses. We need to get more of the open source community using Hive. It could be a matter of reaching critical mass.

@sidwrites has lots of helpful posts to learn about how Hive works.

Please share your own suggestions in the comments. It is up to us to build the community.

Hive five!

Great to see the growth in the Alexa ranking!

I wrote a guide for onboarding non blockchain people to Rising Star too.

Feel free to use it and modify. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RnDRAe0eCbb-6wVLpsViULkuOXJn9Krv3BW8O89Tl_c/edit?usp=sharing

Great guide!

Remember there is no one to call if you lose your keys however Hive does have an account recovery feature so that’s not entirely true in this case

I may be wrong, but I think the recovery feature can only be used when your account was hacked. I think the way it works is that if your keys got changed, you can request your Recovery account to reset your keys BUT only if you know your old key. So you have to save your keys actually, as there is no way to retrieve them.

Ah OK thanks. Didn't know that! That is something that needs a little "i" in the interface.

We still have the same problem in the FOSS (Open Source) community:

"Preaching to the converted"

The core of the problem is actually "Community" everyone works really hard to create it, they see it as fragile and in need of nurturing and therefore protecting from real or imaginary threats both externally and internally. This very quickly creates what we call the "Walled Garden" effect so that people (I won't name names but the tweet is out there) post stuff like "We wanted to onboard Twitter people to #Hive, and ended up onboarding #Hive people to Twitter." it doesn't matter if more Hive accounts start using Twitter or Facebook so long as they don't ditch Hive. Personally, I'd encourage it because the more they talk about Hive on other platforms the more people will get to hear about us.

Everyone ego massaging on Discord will NEVER bring on more users. Discord, which seems to be the only 'accepted' quick communication service is a walled garden which is yet another reason why I refuse to use it. "Death to Discord!" I say, get out there and Evangelise on as many social media platforms as possible. Spread the word to the unconverted and not just your mates in a channel in the hope you get a tip or an upvote.

P.S. If anyone feels the need to share this across the platform, go for it I say. #hugs

"If you don't have enough power or Crypto to upvote me; reshare me instead. Reshares are worth their weight in gold!"

Don't forget, you can upvote peoples comments too!

We do need to break out of our little (and it is little) silo. Plenty of other platforms have gone viral with less to offer than Hive. It needs the right people in the right time and place. We are obviously lacking those or it's not our time. After 4 years you would think I would give up :)

Loving the 20th Century feel of this post haha.
It would be interesting to attend that meetup up north. I'll start looking at logistics. I'm not sure I'd be in the country in September though.

Hope they get good attendance. I see some people are booking hotels.

steemit/com traffic should dwindle quickly now that all the Hivians are done going to that url every week to ship out their power downs for Hive.

I would expect it to reduce. Some people are staying loyal, but I think they just hope for a big vote from the 'curators' if they play along.
