The News

Today is a day when traditionally you need to check carefully before believing anything you read. This post will be (mostly) accurate.

Prices

One thing you can believe is that the $HIVE price is on the way up again. It would be great to see a new high for the year soon.

Today is also Hive Power Up Day with prizes and badges to be won for powering up your account. Check the conditions for eligibility.

Friday Follows

  • @primaudia is a British musician who just joined and has posted a spooky piece. He has some friends here already, so should get some coaching on how to proceed.
  • @raj808 has covered a romantic event at the highest level. Remember what day it is!
  • @double-eagle has gone all-out with prime numbers for his latest NFT release.
  • As well as being an amazing runner @run.vince.run has adopted a cute cat. We all know cats are what the internet was created for.
  • @drwatson is looking for support from the Hive community for future issues of his horror comic. You can buy it for crypto, but the great thing here is that you can support people just by voting.

These people all get a share of the post rewards.

The Doghouse

I am not sure if it really qualifies, but this project stirred up some controversy. It is designed to automatically downvote certain accounts, but it seems that amounts will not be too significant. Some people get upset if they get any sort of downvote, but I have had loads over the years. If you act against abusers it is bound to happen.

I do think we need to normalise the idea of downvotes. They are primarily to adjust rewards and we know the distribution of those is not optimal. Plenty of people, including me, benefit from automatic upvotes regardless of what we post. Hive in general would benefit from more human curation to boost the best content. That will not always be from the 'usual suspects'. The algorithms will reward you if you curate good content before the big guns find it. So seek it out and promote it.

The End

We must not forget the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The Hive community has done a lot to support people there. You can still buy badges from @hivebuzz with the money going to those in need.

We are a quarter of the way through 2022 and Hive is looking good. I hope it will continue to improve, but it is up to each of us to help it along. We all win if Hive succeeds.

Hive five!

The idea of normalizing downvotes is an interesting one. I have to say one of the main attractions of Hive to me is all of the positivity, which is reflected in the very few downvotes. At the same time, curating quality content benefits everyone on Hive, and encourages others to put out quality content.

I think we have to accept that sometimes rewards can get adjusted downwards and people can do that for any reason. I am not saying we should go crazy with downvotes, but should not fear them either. The main thing is to curate the good stuff, but also be prepared to deal with the bad.

I agree, that is very reasonable. This makes the upvotes mean more as well.

Well it wouldn't have much effect. I am trying to say that it is not just for 'official' accounts (no such thing) or nasty people. Anyone can do it, but a lot of people are scared to do it. I have done it and I don't get paid for it. I do what is good for Hive. You are free to do whatever you want.

Don't worry about it. I think I have told you that Hive is the wild west, so anything can happen. If you get a tiny downvote then it is no problem.

I've been pretty lucky today and I haven't gotten got yet. It probably helps that I am feeling under the weather so I likely am not comprehending everything I am reading anyway.

Thanks for promoting my romance story for the ages... a tale of star-crossed lovers they'll be taking a=bout for millennia... or maybe more like another 5-6 hours 🤣

I put my downvote power to use by delegating it to @curangel and @slobberchops both accounts that I trust to do the right thing.

Somebody has to monitor those spam bots that drop whole pages of conspiracy rants on people's posts.

It doesn't get rid of them but hides them from view albeit temporarily.

I know some people will say they don't feel they can downvote, but there is stuff that needs dealing with. I choose to be part of the solution, but there is actually not as much as back on 'the other place'. The good far outweighs the bad on Hive.

Absolutely correct but we do still have those repeat offenders from the other place.

I don't know if we will ever be able to make a difference to the likes of he who must not be named! 😂😂👍

I have to take care what I DV, I am aware of 25 or so followers on my trail. The last account I laid into had been hacked and was spreading scams about.

It needed to be in the minus figures so to become invisible.. then another one turned up doing just the same. It never ends.

Yep I checked a couple of accounts that had been DV and they were obviously spammers.
Shame we have to keep doing this but there will always be people who try to scam the system.
It's not so common on hive? or maybe I just don't see them?

Whatever way it goes the DV does serve as a deterrent.
