What's Buzzing Friends...
It is with summer approaching that we tend to think about what great drinks can provide a relief from the heat. One of our personal favorites is a rum-fusion beverage that is perfect for easing the intensity of the summer heat. Rum is a great mixer-"a weapon, a medicine and a sweetener". One of the most iconic rum's served worldwide is the "Capt. Morgan's" rum.
The bottle of rum features a sailing pirate on the front with one leg up, looking stalwartly out towards the horizon, letting you know that you are in safe hands with this sailing pirate at the helm. But did you know that Capt. Morgan was actually a real captain? To wit, he further became the lieutenant governor of Jamaica! OMG RIGHT??
This captain of legend was born in 1635 in Monmouth County, Wales. He enlisted in the Navy and eventually took up the life of a Privateers. A Privateers is sort of like a legal pirate. Eventually he became the leader of a band of pirates and privateers known as "Brethren of the Coas", who are based in Jamaica. His last official rade was in January 28, 1671 in Panama. After he retired to his estates in Jamaica, where he spent his days drinking and bettering the Jamaica fortifications and helping the city. He died August 25, 1688, and was given a royal send-off. WOW!
