For someone that says she's lousy at crafts, you did an awesome job! I love the creativity behind this idea, and well executed :) you shouldn't be so hard on yourself :)

My mother says that I did it well because I did it with love, I think it is so, because to tell the truth I am very bad at handicrafts, but I think I did it very well for my clumsy hands! Thanks for your comment.
Even if it didn't look great, a child is happy with such simple things, I remember my daughter being in awe for drawings I'd rather throw in the bin haha.. It's very creative what you made and you know what, the internet is filled with ideas to help you create things..
That's true, my son got so excited about this, that at one point I had to ask him to be quiet because he was literally jumping with emotion, first because I had done it and second because it was for him.
