Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Ho-Ho-Ho!

Hello there! It's just 4 days before it's Christmas. How have you been? Have you been naughty, or nice? If you've been following along, you know that we've been into things Christmas-y in our homeschool the past days.

We had a sweet time making and eating our Gingerbread House and to add more Christmas vibe into our home, we made our little Christmas Trees.

But wait, something is missing! Santa! Checking my "dear friend", Mr. Google, there are lots of Christmas projects out there that we can do. Little Miss and I got drawn by an image of a Santa project that directed us to this website. We took the inspiration from there and then added our own touch as we went along.

Making Santa Claus

What you will need:
  • red cardboard
  • brown cardboard
  • pencil
  • glue
  • cotton balls
  • googly eyes
  • red yarn
Steps:
  1. First cut out a tall triangle on your red cardboard. This will be Santa's hat and body.

  2. Trace a round object (a bowl or small plate) on your brown cardboard. This will be Santa's face.

  3. Glue the round brown cardboard at the center of the triangle. (Refer to photo at the right.)

  4. Start forming Santa's face. You can draw his face using permanent markers or use googly eyes and yarn as we did.

The Yarn Christmas Tree

Of course, Little Man and I can't miss the chance to make another project. He was not able to make a Christmas Tree the first time, so he and I made another version that will be suitable for this little one.

Materials:
  • paper plate
  • glue
  • green yarn
  • colored paper
How to do it:
  1. Using the glue, trace a pattern of the Christmas tree. You can design it how you wish.
  2. Carefully trace the yarn along the glue pattern.
  3. Decorate the tree using the colored paper.

This was an excellent exercise for his pincer grip and precision, too. The yarn project was not too easy nor too hard for a 5-year-old and did not have to take a long time to complete. He carefully glued the small bits of colored paper to decorate his tree. We used the left-over colored rice bits from our colorful sensory play some months ago to be the base of the Christmas tree.

Santa Claus and the Little Christmas Tree now found their spots on our wall.

Very Christmas-y, indeed! 🎄
