Since I have onboarded @kaliphae and also have been trying to get some other people to join on the site I thought that perhaps it would be valuable to make a guide that should help all those that are just joining the world of blockchain and give them a little bit of an overview regarding those aspects I found most important during my own experience of getting to know the platform.

For the the best user-experience, I highly recommend using the PEAKD interface, which facilitates a very understandable overview of many of the important elements integrated in the Hive-Blog but invisible in places like Hive.Blog

Tips for People who are about to join or just joined.

Account & Keys:

Upon registration you will receive your account Keys, grouped as posting, active, memo and master key. Save these ideally on an sd card/usb stick disconnected from a computer, the master key is basically the ownership key of your entire account. Never share it with anyoneYou will never be asked to enter it or use it for any service on Hive, except if you need to recover your account for some reason. Recovery is only possible if you are in possession of your master key.

The most efficient way to manage your keys, is to install the Hive Keychain extension, add in your posting, active and memo keys and allow the app to sign your logins for you, that way you do not need to copy paste them from somewhere else where they are accessible to easy hacking. The keychain is encrypted with a common password.

To add an account, you need to simply enter your hive username and either posting or active key, this will enable the wallet, then simply go to the settings tab in the upper right corner and click "Manage Account" add the rest of the keys in here, and you are good to go.

The Posting key is used for actions like posting, reply, comment, vote, basically layer 1 login in most HIVE-Apps, Hive-Engine, Leodex, Leofinance, Nftshowroom, Peakd etc.

The Active Key allows for actions that require a higher layer of permission, such as managing funds in your wallet, authorizing apps to connect to your hive username etc, actions done on the hive-engine exchanges.

Community and What to do?

Some tips for figuring out what to do here, is first of all to realise everything is possible here. This place is only limited by your own perception of it, even myself I keep discovering new aspects about the entire Hive-Ecosystem on a daily basis. This place is growing and sprouting shoots and branches in every possible direction.

The best way to start is to ask yourself what are you here for? What are your passions? You can figure that out and search around for relevant communities to your interests.
Many of these communities propose topics, or host contests and challenges which are a great way to become engaged with the people here. Using PEAKD=>Click on the Communities Tab in the top of the page, then click "All Communities" and scroll through the list of popular communities to see if you spot anything that might include an interest of yours, or use the search function.

For those interested in more of a Sovereign and Nature Minded Crowd a great place to start is Natural Medicine

If you are a Cannabis Lover then perhaps the WeedCash Network

Artist or Creator? Either OnChainArt or OCD

Interested in Crypto and Finance? Leofinance

Awareness & Abundance : Abundance Tribe

Ecology, Self-Sufficiency, Sustainability: Ecotrain

Or if you wish to explore the topics of sovereignty, self-sufficieny & spirituality then perhaps our budding community: Mystical Sovereigns

Furthermore as an artist you can sign up to become a whitelisted artist in the NFT Showroom, where you are able to sell you artwork as NFT-Assets.

If this interests you see the full guide:

Some Final thoughts, if you have a Discord then I would highly recommend jumping into the Discord channels of the different communities if that is your thing, there are some great and amazing people here on the platform, and compared to the atmosphere on traditional social media I find that a large proportion of the Hive community are very genuine and profound people in contrast to the shallowness and superficiality and short attention spans I encountered all over FB, Instagram etc.

Here I feel that the quality of my content is what is judged as valuable, I do not feel like I need to keep myself brief or short in fear that 90% of those opening the post will skip through cause they are accustomed to the reading endurance of a tweet.

People here are not so much interested in explosive dramatic effect or exaggeration but they seem to be a crowd of beautiful humans that care to hear real stories, real emotions, real thoughts, who are in search for something authentic, not some fast food copy of the real thing.

And to be honest I do not think you will survive here for long if you merely are here to act as a facade of yourself, to play pretend, or to exaggerate your persona for special effect or to think trolling and toxicity will get you far.

I have seen this platform back when it was still STEEM and after having left it and returned after it had gone through all its obstacles and crisis, emerging as what it is today namely HIVE. I can say that where many platforms tend to degenerate in civility as time progresses, I have found the contrary to be true for HIVE. It didn't catch my attention enough when it was still STEEM but returning it has added all of the important feautures I was missing and on top of that even the general feeling that I received from the community has been one in which it feels like even the community itself has organically grown and matured over time. Which is a phenomenal achievement for a platform within the internet and probably unique in its kind.

So consider this place is not a place of competition and rivalry in the sense we have been trained to behave. This place flourishes on an understanding that we can fully well cooperate while simultaneously competing together in the same environment. Our competition is not towards eachs other, but we are competing together against the belief that the common man and woman must be kept in poverty and scarcity so that others can be wealthy. We are here to show that abundance can be shared without needing to sacrifice others for it. Using this platform as a tool to enable each of us, who have been neglected, forgotten, shoved aside as outcasts for being too independent, ridiculed for daring to dream too big. Well we have collected here to show the world, that we dare dream even bigger, and that we even dare to build a financial system that is based upon mutual reward instead of mutual debt.

Welcome aboard the great Pirate-Ship that is Hive, where each individual is Captain helping steer this magnificent royal one of a kind ship!

I hope this short guide was able to give you some valuable resources with which you can start your explorations and adventures within the Hive-Ecosystem. If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment and I will try to answer to the best of my ability!

Hi RavenKing

I am disappointed that I didn't find this article when it was published, I am really impressed with the beautiful care that you took with your formatting and fonts and icons as well as this part:

Some Final thoughts, if you have a Discord then I would highly recommend jumping into the Discord channels of the different communities if that is your thing, there are some great and amazing people here on the platform, and compared to the atmosphere on traditional social media I find that a large proportion of the Hive community are very genuine and profound people in contrast to the shallowness and superficiality and short attention spans I encountered all over FB, Instagram etc.

I really want to (with your permission of course) print this out as a quote and put it up on my office wall! This is brilliant and so true. In the few months that I have been on here I have connected with some wonderful people with deep insight into our world, wanting to actually connect with others, not just tweeting little cryptic blurbs. I have had great in-depth conversations about difficult topics and even if we disagreed on some points, we were able to have an adult conversation. And the amount of censorship out there today in mainstream social media is really just insane.

So thank you for this post, I am inspired to do better with my content.

Have a superb weekend.

@andrastia Hey a pleasure to see the article was helpful, I put it up here for a point of reference for anyone that stumbles on it and is new to Hive, so happy you found it when you did and could find it helpful, that is all that counts :)

And regarding the quote of course, you are more than welcome to print it out! I do not ask for royalties 😆 Creative Commons ,instead of copyright attitude 🤣

Enjoy your discovery and adventure in this beautiful space!
