Coco y Choco, dos perritos en adopción (ESP/ENG)
El último sábado del mes de Enero, se celebra cerca de la ciudad de Maracay, una caminata de peregrinación en homenaje a San Sebastián, patrono de la población costera de Ocumare de la Costa. Es una caminata que va por toda la carretera que conduce desde la comunidad de El Limón hasta la Iglesia de Ocumare de la Costa, atravesando el Parque Nacional Henry Pittier, una montaña con una selva nublada, en un recorrido de 42 km.
Como es una costumbre en estos casos, se solicita el acompañamiento de organizaciones de seguridad y protección en caso de accidentes o problemas de salud ocasionados por el fuerte ascenso y descenso de la montaña, entre estas La Cruz Roja del estado Aragua .
Mi hija @maxjulisgf es rescatista y paramédico voluntaria y ese día se le asignó ir con la comisión de la Cruz Roja. Subiendo la montaña se encontraron en plena vía, con dos cachorros de entre dos y tres meses de edad, desnutridos y abandonados, con el riesgo de que los atropellaran porque esa carretera es muy angosta y con muchas curvas, donde los carros no se detienen porque es muy riesgoso. Las personas que los dejaron abandonados sabían que lo más seguro es que morirían. Que crueles pueden ser algunos seres humanos pero también hay personas dispuestas a ayudarlos y darles amor.
Mi hija y las otras personas que la acompañaban, los rescataron y los llevaron a mi casa, donde en anteriores oportunidades hemos sido hogares temporales de perros y gatos abandonados.
Coco y Choco que así le pusimos por nombre, por el color de su pelaje, son hermanos y su llegada al apartamento donde vivimos mi hija menor, Isis una perra adoptada y yo, fue todo un acontecimiento, de la tranquilidad de nuestras vida pasamos a una constante vigilancia de los cachorros que por supuesto hacían sus necesidades en todas partes. Enseñarles a que tenían que ir a la cocina donde había puesto papeles, fue un proceso y poco a poco fueron aprendiendo. Como ocurre con los cachorritos pequeños comían bastante y a cada rato, no dejaban a Isis comer porque se metían en su plato. Ella al inicio les gruñía, pero poco a poco los fue aceptando y jugaba mucho con ellos.
Lo primero que hicimos al llegar a la casa fue desparasitarlos y bañarlos. Coco tenía hongos en la piel y le puse una crema antifúngica Clotrimazol al 1% y con esto se mejoró. Con los días los cachorritos fueron ganando peso y su pelaje se puso más brillante y ellos más tremendos. Los primeros días los dejaba en la sala en unas cobijas pero no querían dormir allí y se acercaban a mi cuarto y dormían en una alfombra cerca de la puerta. Me despertaban a las 6 de la mañana llorando. Después ya entraban a mi cuarto y dormían en mi cama.
Mi hijas y yo pusimos avisos de adopción para los perritos y a las tres semanas el primero en ser adoptado fue Choco, el macho, me dio tristeza que se separara de su hermana pero era difícil aunque no imposible que los adoptaran a los dos. Como siempre me pasa no pude evitar que se me salieran las lágrimas al entregarlo a la persona que se lo iba a llevar.
A la semana de estar Coco sola en la casa se apego mucho más a Isis a quien seguía a todas partes y a mi hija y a mi y por supuesto nosotras a ella, y lamenté no poder dejarla a vivir con nosotras. La lleve a una jornada de adopción de perros y gatos que realiza una fundación de ayuda a las mascotas “Animales sin fronteras”. Ellos se reúnen en el centro comercial Parque Aragua en la ciudad de Maracay, todos los días sábados y allí realizan el proceso de adopción. Me pareció muy importante que es condición necesaria para adoptar a un perro colocarle la vacuna sextuple que los protege contra las siguientes enfermedades: parvovirosis, moquillo, hepatitis, parainfluenza, adenovirus y leptospirosis. Y otra cosa que me gusta mucho por la seguridad de las mascotas es que la persona que adopta debe llenar un formulario con sus datos de residencia y la fundación les realiza visitas para constatar la condición en la que están viviendo los perritos o gatitos.
Ese primer día que llevamos a Coco la colocaron en una jaula con otros perros. Ella miraba todo con unos ojos tristes, creo que esa mirada atrajo la atención de varias personas hasta que una señora y su hija se interesaron, la tuvieron en brazos y ella muy mimosa y cariñosa se ganó el amor de ambas.
Coco y Choco tienen una buena vida llena de amor y cuidados. Ellos son unos seres especiales y gracias al amor de todas las personas que participaron en su rescate, cuidado y adopción están con personas que los aman.

Going up the mountain they found two puppies between two and three months old, malnourished and abandoned, with the risk of being run over because that road is very narrow and with many curves, where cars do not stop because it is very risky. The person or persons who left them abandoned knew that they would most likely die. How cruel some human beings can be, but there are also people willing to help them and give them love.
My daughter and the other people who accompanied her rescued them and took them to my house, where we have been temporary homes for abandoned dogs and cats in the past.
Coco and Choco, as we named them because of the color of their fur, are siblings and their arrival to the apartment where my youngest daughter, Isis, an adopted dog and I live, was quite an event, from the tranquility of our lives we went to a constant vigilance of the puppies that of course did their needs everywhere. Teaching them that they had to go to the kitchen where I had put papers was a process and little by little they were learning. As it happens with small puppies they ate a lot and every now and then, they would not let Isis eat because they would get into her dish. At the beginning she growled at them but little by little she accepted them and played with them a lot.
The first thing we did when we got home was to deworm and bathe them. Coco had fungus on her skin and I put on an antifungal cream Clotrimazol al 1 %, and with this she got better. With the days the puppies were gaining weight and their fur became shinier and they were more tremendous. The first few days I left them in the living room in blankets but they didn't want to sleep there and came to my room and slept on a rug near the door. They would wake me up at 6 in the morning crying. Then they would come into my room and sleep in my bed.
My daughter and I put up adoption notices for the dogs and after three weeks the first one to be adopted was Choco the male, I was sad that he was separated from his sister but it was difficult but not impossible for them both to be adopted. As it always happens to me, I couldn't avoid tears when I handed him over to the person who was going to take him.
A week after Coco was alone in the house she became much more attached to Isis whom she followed everywhere and to my daughter and me and of course we to her, and I regretted not being able to let her live with me.
I took her to an adoption day for dogs and cats held by a foundation that helps pets. They meet in a shopping center in the city of Maracay, every Saturday and there they carry out the adoption process. I found it very important that it is a necessary condition for adopting a dog to have the sextuple vaccine that protects them against the following diseases: parvovirus, distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, adenovirus and leptospirosis. And another thing that I like very much for the safety of the pets is that the person who adopts must fill out a form with their residence information and the foundation visits them to check the condition in which the dogs or kittens are living.
That first day we took Coco, she was placed in a cage with other dogs. She looked at everything with sad eyes, I think that look attracted the attention of several people until a lady and her daughter became interested, they took her in their arms and she was very cuddly and affectionate and won the love of both of them.
Coco and Choco have a good life full of love and care. They are special beings and thanks to the love of all the people who participated in their rescue, care and adoption they are with people who love them.

Me conmovió mucho esta historia, conozco bien esa carretera y me cuesta creer que hayan personas capaces de abandonar 2 cachorritos, gracias a tu hija y a tu apoyo hoy tienen un hogar, comida y cuidado...las aplaudo de pie porque personas como ustedes cambian el mundo, mi admiración y respeto, un fuerte abrazo...
