My Karelian Bear Dog

I'm an avid hiker and where I live bears frequent the trails I hike on. I've always carried bear spray with me as a deterrent but even that's never 100% I always figured one day you'd find me eaten by a bear lol This is one of my older hikes when I didn't have a puppy.

I go over a lot more details about my puppy and what I feed her, train her with etc on my main website. GubbaTV Pet Blog

Growing up I never imagined myself getting my own puppy. I always disliked dogs or at least I thought. It wasn't until I realized it wasn't the dog I didn't like but bad owners that would let their dogs get away with anything. I always hated going over to a friends house and having their dog jump all over me or just be out of control.

I knew getting a puppy myself would be a lot of work. But I wanted better protection from bears and just more safety while out walking trails. I did months of research and decided on a Karelian Bear Dog!

I decided on this bread because they are a working class dog and she does great on long hikes. She's also a big game hunter and is great at deterring bears I might run into on the trails.

Here she is when I first meet her <3

The first few months were hard! The long nights, crate training and just getting used to everything was a huge challenge. Looking back at it though it's been so worth it.

I tell a little about this in one of my new vlogs about how to crate train your puppy

We were pretty much locked up in the house not only because of covid having hit but also because she was too young still to be around other dogs and still needed her shots.

I swear she is the smartest dog ever! Always so curious and learning every day. It's the best feeling coming down stairs to see her in the morning and love on her <3 She amazes me with the new things she learns herself each day.

Months later we finally were able to go on our first hike over the summer. It was AMAZING! I took so many pictures of her!

The hard months of raising her have been totally worth it! My hikes are so much more enjoyable and the protection she offers while I'm on my hikes gives me peace of mind. I'm currently working with her to be off leash. We are a few months in and so far it's paying off big time. I occasionally do Instagram stories of her on my hikes as well if you're interested in checking those out. GubbaTV Instagram

I didn't know those things about crate training, really good info.

I always hated going over to a friends house and having their dog jump all over me or just be out of control

I hope your new companion makes you change that thinking! haha, those kinds of dogs are so lovely

Your cub is very beautiful, they seem to grow quite a bit. She is very well trained, I hope she will be an excellent protection against bears.

When they are puppies they are cuter, but they are always an excellent companion.

Super cute doggy :)

I like that you leave the crate open and she'll just go for a nap there, it shows she's very comfortable with it and it's not seen as a punishment at all.

Exactly it's her safe place where no one will bother her. Gives me peace of mind if I need to go anywhere and leave her at home. I know she wont be getting into anything.

I just checked out your website and I came here to say OH MAH GAWD how do you manage doing so many different things at once??? You have my respect!! I'm doing e-commerce, have a furkid who demands my 24/7 attention, recently started blogging again and I try to do some other side hobbies I enjoy and 24 hours is just not enough lol

Thank you for checking out the site :)

Lots and lots of hard work! I really love reading and writing which made blogging come pretty natural. I also cut out a lot of things that were eating up my time like watching TV.
What hobbies are you doing?

I know! I watch Netflix when I eat (to help zone out from everything else) or sometimes when I'm too sleepy I turn it on and put it beside my laptop as I work on my designs lol. I just realized not much, just singing or playing the guitar , playing with my puppy and some occasional dance fitness exercise (not sure if that counts as a hobby)

Your dog is beautiful kinda looks like an Akita we have here in the States. I wonder what the difference might be?
So glad you have her to walk with. She looks like a great companion.

Thank you so much :) I think Akita are larger type dogs. Kintla will be about 45lbs and she's close to that already.
