I understand how a heart attack affects

avatar

Our organism is an almost perfect machine, everything works in balance, and practically each one of our organs is connected with the others, either through neurotransmitters, hormones or nerves.

The blood flows throughout the body, and is responsible for carrying the necessary nutrients to each of the cells, including oxygen and glucose, substances that are necessary for optimal functioning, since from these derives, after a complex process, the ATP, which is the energy in our body.

The function of the circulatory system then we can easily see it, since it is the set of "pipes " through which the blood travels throughout our body. Either oxygenated blood (through arteries and arterioles) or deoxygenated blood full of metabolic wastes (veins and venules). When the arteries become obstructed they produce what we call INFARTO, read on if you want to know a little more about it.

As I have explained in previous publications, each cell of our organism is composed of three fundamental elements, which are "lipids or fats, proteins and carbohydrates ". These are macromolecules that in order to be formed need a lot of energy, it is a very complex process called cell catabolism.

This process is the one that consists in the construction, and the opposite process, that is to say, to destroy the proteins and to take them to their minimum expression, in amino acids, requires a very great energetic consumption, therefore, glucose and oxygen are indispensable elements in the cells that are in this process.

The same occurs, at the level of energy expenditure, in cells that have a high functioning, as for example the cells of the intestine, which have a high metabolic rate, and undoubtedly the clearest example is the myocardium, or cardiac muscle.

A heart attack can be defined as follows:

Obstruction of arterial blood flow to a tissue. Therefore, it is important to consider that an infarct can be generated in any part of the body. But it is necessary to recognize that the most common is the cardiac infarction, therefore, I will explain using it as an example.

As I said before, the heart is an organ with a high metabolic rate, because it beats permanently, its cells need a lot of energy to be constantly contracting, it needs a lot of oxygen for energy to be constantly produced.

The problem occurs when for some reason one of the arteries that carries blood to a part of the heart is obstructed, as it prevents oxygen from reaching it, and therefore no energy is produced and the heart, at least the affected part stops beating, and after a while, there may even be necrosis of the affected tissue.

This obstruction can be produced by different causes, for example a clot, which lodges in the artery and prevents the passage of oxygenated blood, it can also be due to the detachment of an atheroma plaque (this is a fragment of lipid that adheres to the arteries, and can become detached). And thus compromising blood flow.

It is important to keep in mind that an infarct can occur anywhere in the body. A mesenteric infarction, which affects the small and/or large intestine, can be life-threatening, as can a pulmonary infarction.

Basically it is due to the fact that when the blood flow is obstructed, the oxygen levels are not optimal for energy to be produced, and when this is not produced the cells cannot maintain their structure in good condition, nor can they maintain the activity they perform, therefore, it will be reflected in a macro way as the dysfunction of the affected organ, even suffering a death of the tissue and therefore the death of the individual.

This situation, unfortunately is very common, especially what has to do with myocardial infarction, which, by far, is the most frequent cause of expression of heart attacks, but we can not rule out other forms of expression, and I must also emphasize that the main cause is the obstruction of the arteries by atheroma plaques, produced by poor eating habits.

I hope you have been able to reach this part of the publication with a better understanding of this disease, and why it is generated.

The heart, the brain and the kidneys are very delicate organs of the body in terms of blood supply. Any interruption of blood supply to these organs will cause a great damage within a short time.

Ischaemic heart disease is currently the leading cause of death globally. This post is timely and very informative to create awareness of this disease with a clear explanation of how it happens. Kudos for the great job sir.

You mentioned organs that are highly dependent on energy consumption, where a failure in blood supply can be fatal.
The kidneys, because of their important function, quickly fail in the face of insufficient blood supply.
Thank you very much for your valuable comment.

Thanks for this very clear explanations. We can indeed pay a very expensive price for bad eating habits, some people actually only finding about the causes quite late in their lives. Communication should be improved I believe, especially in wealthy countries (where I naively think heart attacks occur more often).

Cheers!

Unfortunately, the purchasing power that can be seen in more developed countries is related to the appearance of certain diseases, and with a higher rate of these diseases, heart attacks are among the statistics.
Having more economic possibilities can lend itself to the consumption of foods rich in fat, which not only predisposes to an increase in cardiovascular diseases but others such as diabetes, insulin resistance, obesity and all that comes with it, among many others.
Very accurate comment, thank you very much.

I think that we agree, when reading bot our last comments :)

Totally, which is why I mentioned that communication should be improved. I can easily imagine that many people just have bad habits because they don't know, or don't deal with check-ups often enough. Of course, I cannot prove this quantitatively (I know a few cases in people I know).

I completely agree with you. Knowledge indeed is power, and bad news travels faster, and many people are currently misinformed.

I would even emphasise that comment further: many people are misinformed... or not even informed at all.

I think that is my biggest fear lol! such a complex machine which can be very overloaded depending of how we treat it .

That is why it is best to treat the machine well, although it does not guarantee eternal health either, but at least make the attempt, but without ceasing to enjoy it.Thank you
