The sky line — Solaris Lab

There is one absolutely beautiful place in St. Petersburg that would become super popular with tourists if they knew about it. But it is located off the beaten tourist path, and information about its existence is passed on the old-fashioned way, by word of mouth. Well, not from word of mouth, from messenger to messenger.

A coffee shop "Solaris Lab" is located on the roof of the former factory building about the height of a modern nine-story house. Earlier in this building was located production of soft drinks, here also produced malt for Kalinkinsky brewery. Kalinkin brewery is located next door. It is the oldest industrial brewery in Russia and was founded under the patronage of Empress Catherine the Great.

To get to the Solaris Lab space, you have to go up different staircases in succession, and between them, cross the huge empty spaces of the former workshops and the curved arms of mysterious corridors. The coffee shop is located on the top floor of the building. On windy days, it's best to confine yourself to the coffee shop itself, but on a hot summer day, you can move even higher, to the building's rooftop terrace.

The Solaris Lab is located on Kurlyandskaya Street, it is sort of the outskirts of the center - that is, it is an old neighborhood, but not the parade center. So the views from the roof of the building are very varied. If you look in one direction, you can see the dome of St. Isaac's Cathedral and other memorable architectural dominants; if you look in the other direction, you will see a forest of shipbuilding and portal cranes, and behind them the sheen of the waters of the Gulf of Finland; if you turn further, you will see the roofs of red-brick industrial buildings along the Obvodny Channel.

This wonderful place has only one drawback. Perhaps you have already guessed about it, when you read the description of the road to the coffee house. You will have to walk up to the height of a nine-story building, elevators are not provided. But if you are not intimidated by such physical exercise, the Solaris Lab is one of those places that is definitely worth a visit.

Yeah, it's a great place! But it's not very conveniently located and I can't go there often.
