Market Friday Returns

in Market Friday3 months ago

Today is #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle (Denise, that's me!!) Join me as we share our markets across the globe. I always look forward to seeing what you send me! It is amazing to see the different markets and cultures of our friends here on Hive.I put #MarketFriday on vacation as it was becoming a little overwhelming with my work schedule. Hopefully, work will lighten up and we will continue forward.

This week, I went to the Military Commissary to go grocery shopping. I decided to show you some of the fruits and vegetables that I used. I try to be smart about what I am buying and not get distracted by the signs that shout Sale!!! I used to fall prey to that and I would get home with all this food and I wonder what I will do with it.

Are you ready to shop a bit? I am never ready!! I would rather be doing almost anything, riding my bike, swimming in an ocean of waves, running straight into the sunshine. But, everyone at home wants to eat, so I will go do the needful. Color me kind. Today, they get food. Water tomorrow.

So, it all starts with a bright plate of sunshine. Who could resist the sweetness of life wrapped up in the orangest of peels? I cannot tell a lie. It wasn't me. They are sometimes a little sneaky, offering up samples so that you will be tempted. Ever since Auntie COVID came to town, that nicety has gone away, as it should. Now, I must guess what it looks like inside.

Blueberries in a cantaloupe bowl surrounded by grapes. Remember what they say. Five servings of fruit and veggies every day. I try to incorporate as many vegetables into a meal as I can. Finding new ways to wow my family's taste buds is always a mission. So I try to find recipes that have things in them that they like and push in a little something new.

I know that zucchini isn't something new for their pallet, but, I am always trying to find great ways to use them. I bread them and fry them, bake them, saute them, but, I am really looking for some good ways to use them. Ditto with eggplant. It's fun to experiment, but, more fun when you discover a new way to do things. Do you eat zucchini and eggplant? What is your favorite way to use them?

Do you use a shopping list, either on your phone or written down? Do you shop for the sales or for the taste of what you are feeling like? I tend to put menus together for each day, so I can do more economical shopping, getting items that I need instead of what I see. Sometimes, I am impulsive, so I bring a list so I don't wander off the menu. :))

Is there anything more delicious than the delicate taste of asparagus with a touch of garlic, lightly sauteed in olive oil? Only if they are paired up against freshly picked off-the-vine tomatoes. Well, at this time of year, I will have to believe them if they say they are freshly picked off some vine in California. Or Chile. We have had a great season for fresh fruits and vegetables, despite shortages of other grocery items.

Question:I have keys, but no locks and space, and no rooms. You can enter, but you can’t go outside. What am I?*

Answer! Can you guess??? A keyboard!

Oh, red cabbage! You are so underappreciated! I love you in a salad.
Cabbage soup. Another winner. Okay, the winner may be pushing it, but, it certainly has made its way into my heart. The heads always seem so tiny to me and yet, I never run out of it.

Salad is my favorite! I can't imagine a day without some sort of salad. I even made little heart tomatoes to throw in. They are so sweet! I found out how to do it around Valentine's Day. But, every day is Valentines to me!

All I have are my words, armed in my mind, written in pen, stand by stand. Oh, yes. Still by hand. It has a different feel. Altered not by keys, backspace, and delete, I write, erase, tear it to pieces and start all over again. And again.

It’s my way. I walk out to the deep end of the page and dive right in.

The Naming of Cats

The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn’t just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I’m as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.

Oh finally! We have been waiting ages for the return of Market Friday! I cant wait until I am back out there pushing my cart and scoring the deals!

I really like those heart tomatoes. Quite a cool trick.

Now I use my Lola and she has been a big help. Of course I have not taken her shopping lately as I have done curbside. You know Kroger has a pretty nifty curbside pickup. I think I will only go in half as much and use curbside even ager the pandemic.

You always take the best pictures!

I never stopped shopping for myself. I am not a huge fan of curbside, but, I understand why it is necessary and liked. There are a few pitfalls to it, especially when they give you something else that you weren't expecting, but, for the most part, I hear good stories about it.

The heart tomatoes were pretty cool and they make the salad look pretty cool.

If curbside works for you, I would continue as I know how busy your life is. The stores are much more convenient where I am and sometimes it makes more sense to pick up my fruits and veggies every couple of days as I pass a dozen grocery/produce stands on the way home.

#MarketFriday loves you!

So you couldn't resist! Rightly, you couldn't ignore your own child, #MarketFriday. I really like the new style. As usual, you are a role model. Thanks!

Haha! I know, right? People were so kind and kept posting all the way through. I couldn't ignore that and I tried to keep rewarding those that did, although I found not enough time to post one myself. I will give it a go.

I did love it, but, I wondered if people were tired of it. Thanks so much for stopping by and supporting it!

#MarketFriday loves you!

You know I usually say exactly what I think and I know you won't be upset ... I got tired of #marketfriday and that's because it was hard for me to take pictures in stores and markets. People are so suspicious!
I will try to post sometimes, when I have good "merchandise".

Those fruits and veggies shots look absolutely delicious! So nice and fresh :) Wishing you a lovely weekend and many great entries to this Market Friday round!

Thank you! I decided to show off a few of the things I bought this week. I am fortunate in the fact that even though I put #MarketFriday on vacation in November, people continued to post into the tag. That is dedication and I love them for it!

Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving your words!

#MarketFriday loves you!

"I am fortunate in the fact that even though I put #MarketFriday on vacation in November, people continued to post into the tag. That is dedication and I love them for it!"

...just another proof how amazing and popular initiative you created ;) The people of Hive love it and I am happy for you :)

Market Friday is back!!!!
New photos...everything!!!
@dswigle, I knew that Market Friday will always be!

Hello, Beauty! I finally feel like I can manage it and do the people justice that take the time and energy to post into it.

I'm Backkkkkkk!

I look forward to posting the markets again, although, until the world is right again, they will be a bit less amazing. :)) Thank you so much for supporting it in the absence of my own posting and I will never forget how awesome all you people were!

#MarketFriday loves you!

We love you too, sweet @dswigle!

Gorgeous pics as always
I seldom use a shopping list though that's a bad idea
I always come back with things I don't need and forget things I was supposed to have gone shopping to begin with
When will I learn? ;D

I was always a list person, I just didn't always follow it. :)) I found I really saved a ton of money shopping by recipe. I decided early on what I was cooking for the next week (or so) and buy only what was on the list. Always remembering to add a few goodies there too!

I used to come back with all these good, but odd ingredients that went with nothing. Ugh! Try it! You might find it helpful. Or not. LOL

Thanks so much for stopping by!

#MarketFriday loves you!

I know it will save me a lot of time
Ok, I am going to make this work for next week
Wish me luckkkk :D

Oh, I would love to know how it works for you! I can tell you it has been most beneficial as far as getting all I need and being prepared with dinners! :) I am soooo lazy!

Your fruits and veggies look good !

I don't really to anywhere yet, so shopping is out for now.

That's quite a complicated looking shopping list there.

Before covid, I did stop writing my lists and just yell out to Alexa when I wanted to add to my list and once in the store, I pulled that list up on my phone.... vwa la ! Put in cart, touch item name, it drops down off the list ! I feel so spoiled !

Wow! Nice looking salad and lots of my favourite fruits! So glad you have more free time to restart the tag again! Many people were missing their Friday market expeditions!

Have a wonderful weekend!

I missed you guys! I was so happy to see you and others continue, even when I didn't have time! I found more time now that things have stopped escalating around here and hopefully will only get better and better.

Thank you for your continued support in the tag!

#MarketFriday loves you!

Have a wonderful day.

Have a great day!

Life’s been so busy all if a sudden! No two days are the same! I’m quite exhausted by the heat! Hope you’ll have lots of posts to keep you busy reading! LoL

Yes! There definitely is. When they run out, I have plenty to keep me busy. Life is full, but, it is a good feeling!

Hooray for Market Friday! Your timing is perfect. With things improving with the pandemic, I think we will all be willing to go into more stores.

As for zucchini, my favorite method is to roast them. I put them in the oven for about 20 minutes at 425, with a toss of olive oil, salt and pepper.

I think eggplants are best double cooked. I steam them or roast them for a while and then sauté them in sesame oil with soy sauce, a little sugar, fresh chopped garlic and ginger and some red pepper flakes, salt and pepper and sesame seeds. The reason for double cooking is you need less oil when you sauté them.

You are awesome!!! I have had to be pretty inventive last year. Finally, at Christmas, I put it on vacation for a few months. :)) But, I feel refreshed and spring has come to visit!

I appreciate the recipes!!! I am short on good eggplant ideas, so this is really nice of you! I will definitely try it! I love anything with pepper flakes. :)) Kidding. Not my oatmeal. But, yummy!! I do love eggplant! Thank you and thank you for stopping by and always supporting me!

Wow! Good old Market Friday! So good to see it! 😀 Yes, with the arrival of covids, we cannot visit the usual markets, only shops - a lot of changes, alas 😭 Finding new vegetable recipes that the family would like is a huge challenge for me 😩 The only dish my husband eats is to bake zucchini and other vegetables sprinkled with non-dairy cheese in the oven. I really like to put red cabbage on fermentation. It is divinely delicious and mega healthy! The flowers are great !!!

Haha!! #MarketFriday has been running for almost 4 years! Can you believe that? I will say that last year was a challenge, but, I managed and so did everyone else! Can you believe it? I did put it on vacation for a couple of months at Thanksgiving, but, people still posted to it. :))

That is true dedication! Does he like eggplant? Eggplant Parmigiana is pretty good, although the eggplant has to be friend, so that may be a no thank you. :) I find main vegetable recipes a challenge myself. Most take too many ingredients or take too long to make. Oh! I have become lazy!!

Are you talking about kimchee? Fermented red cabbage? I love it!!! I have done it many times! Thank you for stopping by and leaving your words! And welcome back! We missed you!

#MarketFriday loves you!

Nice to see you back with @marketfriday and what a come back with those splendid fruits and veggies I will be out hunting down some thing to post will be seeing you soon 😉

Aren't you awesome! Thank you so much for the incentive to look out for your post! :)) You know I couldn't stay away, but, after almost 4 years, I needed to put it on vacation for a couple of months. Challenges can be a lot of work and my work was getting too busy because of COVID, so that worked out well and I came back!

Looking forward to your post!

#MarketFriday loves you!

Can relate to that 4 years is a long time and you needed that well deserved break , glad it all worked out great for you and again welcome back 😉
