Exploring nature by Paracotos - Miranda (Venezuela) / Explorando la naturaleza por Paracotos - Miranda (Venezuela)

Hiking through little-visited places between mountains, forests and rivers is very exciting, you feel like a true explorer, that's why every time the opportunity presents itself, I put on my boots and go.

Hacer caminatas por lugares poco visitados entre montañas, bosques y ríos es muy emocionante, te sientes como una verdadera exploradora, por eso cada vez que se me presenta la oportunidad, me pongo mis botas y arranco.

On this occasion I will share with you images of an excursion I did through the town of Paracotos, in Miranda state (Venezuela), where we immersed ourselves on a path that led us to walk between the river, a canyon, visit a waterfall and some enigmatic stones that looked like the portal to something mysterious.

En esta ocasión compartiré con ustedes imágenes de una excursión que hice por el pueblo de Paracotos, en el estado Miranda (Venezuela), donde nos sumergimos por un sendero que nos llevó a caminar entre el río, un cañón, visitar una cascada y unas enigmáticas piedras que parecían el portal hacia algo misterioso.

I did this route with the CEC (Caracas Excursionist Center), and officially its name is: Paracotos - Las Comadres - El Prado.

Esta ruta la hice con el CEC (Centro Excursionista Caracas), y oficialmente su nombre es: Paracotos – Las Comadres – El Prado.

We left the city of Caracas early by bus and at 8:00 in the morning we were in Paracotos. Already in the center of the town we began to walk for a few minutes and we reached an area with a dirt road. The weather was very cool, without direct sun because there were many clouds.

Salimos temprano en autobús de la ciudad de Caracas y a las 8:00 de la mañana estábamos en Paracotos. Ya en el centro del pueblo comenzamos a caminar unos minutos y llegamos hacia una zona con vía de tierra. El clima estaba muy fresco, sin sol directo porque había muchas nubes.

The river appeared before us and would be our companion for almost the entire route, wider in some areas, narrow in others, but although it was not very plentiful we always had to be careful not to slip in some sections and also not to get our feet too wet and getting soaked socks, something very uncomfortable...

El río apareció ante nosotros y sería nuestro compañero durante casi toda la ruta, más amplio en algunas zonas, angosto en otras, pero aunque no estaba muy caudaloso siempre debíamos tener cuidado para no resbalar en algunos tramos y también para no mojarnos mucho los pies y quedar con las medias empapadas, algo muy incómodo…

At first we found a wide space with dirt walls on the sides, it seemed as if someone had opened it, and the river running in the middle in separate sections on a floor with many pebbles.

Al principio nos encontramos con un amplio espacio con paredes de tierra a los lados, parecía como si alguien lo hubiese abierto, y el río corriendo en el medio en secciones separadas sobre un suelo con muchas piedritas.

The area we were heading to is called La Enea, and the river bed challenged us even though the water was low, we had to look to jump over the stones to avoid getting our feet wet. I was wearing some boots and tried not to get them wet even though I didn't quite succeed.

La zona a la que nos dirigíamos se llama La Enea, y el lecho del río nos desafió a pesar de que el agua estaba baja, teníamos que buscar saltar sobre las piedras para evitar mojarnos los pies. Yo tenía puestas unas botas y traté de no mojarlas aunque no lo logré del todo.

Later the river got wider and we had to walk along the shore, through the bits of land that were there.

Más adelante el río se puso más ancho y tuvimos que caminar por la orilla, por los pedacitos de tierra que estaban allí.

Around here we sighted a house on a hill, it looked like a hacienda, it looked very pretty and there were some very tall trees where they had installed some wooden boards as stairs and platforms.

Por aquí avistamos una casa en una colina, parecía como una hacienda, se veía muy bonita y tenía por allí unos altísimos árboles donde habían instalado unas tablas de madera a modo de escaleras y unas plataformas.

Then we went through a farm with animals and the name made me laugh, I imagine that the owner may have had problems registering the legal documents of the place hahaha...

Luego pasamos por una granja con animales y me dio mucha risa el nombre, me imagino que el dueño quizá tuvo problemas para registrar los documentos legales del lugar jajaja…

After this brief contact with civilization, we went back into the forest, the goal was to reach a waterfall called Las Comadres and also some large stones with the same name.

Tras este breve contacto con la civilización, volvimos a adentrarnos por el monte, la meta era llegar a una cascada llamada Las Comadres y también a unas grandes piedras con el mismo nombre.

We continued walking and the two stones could already be seen in the distance, which I later read have a legend. The inhabitants of the area say that these two rocks were two women who fought all the time while washing their clothes in the river and that during a Holy Week they were punished, turned into stones and forced to face each other forever... Who knows if it's true, but the truth is that this place, tucked between thick vegetation, seemed very mysterious to me, and there were fluttering butterflies and birds singing.

Seguimos caminando y ya se veían a lo lejos las dos piedras, que según leí luego tienen una leyenda. Cuentan los pobladores de la zona que estas dos rocas eran dos mujeres que se la pasaban peleando mientras lavaban su ropa en el río y que durante una Semana Santa fueron castigadas, convertidas en piedras y obligadas a estar una frente a la otra para siempre… Quién sabe si es verdad, pero lo cierto es que este lugar, metido entre una espesa vegetación, me pareció muy misterioso, además por allí había mariposas revoloteando y aves cantando.

Then we went up a mountain, already in the final section of the excursion that in total was about 15 km, and we came across beautiful crops. We had to get to El Prado, near the town of San Diego de Los Altos, where our bus was waiting for us to return to Caracas.

Después subimos por una montaña, ya en el tramo final de la excursión que en total fue de unos 15 km, y nos encontramos con hermosos sembradíos. Teníamos que llegar hasta El Prado, cerca de la población de San Diego de Los Altos, donde nos esperaba nuestro autobús para regresar a Caracas.
