Street Photography Tricks | Flashes of Light

Greetings community! Today I share with you another segment of the series ‘Street Photography Tricks’. This time I would like to mention the flashes of light.

Although the series is dedicated to urban scene, for this post also and included elements of nature.

The elements involved in a photograph are not always palpable, light, for example, is the form of energy that makes all things visible, and just as our eyes perceive it, which can be dazzled, a camera can also perceive it, and as we are able to balance the light, we can get good images.

I have seen some digital filters where, when looking at the screen, flashes of light appear everywhere, but to get flashes in our photos we don't need filters, just need to know how to identify light sources that look good in a photographic frame. These light sources can be natural such as the sun or stars, also, artificial light sources such as headlights, in addition, these reflected on shiny surfaces can also be frames with potential.

Editing programs can considerably improve our photos, my favorite program to make lighting adjustments is 'Adobe Lightroom', this software is quite easy to use and the quality of the images is excellent. One of the options allows adjusting the 'high lights', with this option we can give the flashes the intensity we want and thus achieve a greater compositional balance.

I recently recorded the flow of a river, and in the video can be seen how flashes appear and disappear, those, the ones that appear in the water, are the flashes of light that I like to remember the most, also the explosions and thunders in the sky.

This is the third post in the series. Identifying flashes of light and incorporating them into your photos would certainly be good practice to improve our skills. I will be waiting for a stormy day, since I would like to photograph thunders.

  • Own Photographs / Cameras: Olympus SZ-12 & Canon PowrShot SX 150 IS.
  • Editing Software: Adobe Lightroom.

That was all for now, I hope you liked my post and I invite you to see more tips for photographs on this series, I have already dedicated some posts to basic tricks, so it will be a personal challenge to include new ones.

Happy start of the week. Until next time!
