Bend Whitewater Park

In the heart of Bend, Oregon a part of the Deschutes River has been made into a white water park. I took some photos of one of the main activities in the park which is river surfing. For those that are interested here is a link to more information about the sport and this wave in paticular. So sit back, relax and enjoy a few images of river surfing on the Deschutes.

After reading the sign board on the rocks apparently there are some controls over the wave. I'm not sure where it is controlled from, but if you check out the provided link you get a better idea of the mechanism in the water controlling the wave.

After a few shots from below I decide to go up to the footbridge for a better view of the action.

A typical end to a lot of the rides I witnessed. 😀

Another rider prepares for a run. You can see part of the wave creating mechanism in the trough. I also luckily caught a bird skimming through the trough at the same moment.

This guy seems to be pretty experienced. He was able to glide back and forth across the wave quite smoothly with some tight turns at each end.

I like this shot for the way his board cuts a channel through the wave.

Something I probably would have liked to try in my younger days. I just don't think I have the time, money or balance to start a new hobby like this at this point in my life. 😀
