Don't take me wrong, I don't mean that you should smoke with this image, actually it's part of my practice to improve my product photography and especially dark food photography, a couple of days ago I was looking at a post by @crosheille that made me remember that I haven't done this kind of photography in several days, of course in my case it's dark themed, with the washed out blacks, and the color a little bit desaturated.

No me lo tomen a mal, no quiero decir que debas fumar con ésta imagen, en realidad es parte de mi práctica para mejorar mi fotografía de producto y sobre todo la fotografía de comida oscura (aunque diciéndolo en español se escucha horrible, mejor hay que decir dark food photography) hace un par de días miraba un post de @crosheille que me hizo recordar que no he hecho este tipo de fotografía en varios días, claro que en mi caso es con temática oscura, con los negros lavados, y el color un poco desaturado.

Obviously to get this result I had to do several tests when I took the pictures, actually I took 7 pictures in total, the first one was a total disaster because the direction of the light was bad, that picture I didn't even waste time editing it, I consider that this pictures already have something interesting with the direction of the light, the first ones were a little underexposed but I think the results are good, or what do you think?

Obviamente para conseguir este resultado tuve que hacer varias pruebas al tomar las fotografías, en realidad tomé 7 fotos en total, la primera fue un total desastre porque la dirección de la luz fue mala, esa foto ni siquiera perdí el tiempo en editarla, considero que esta fotos ya tienen algo interesante con la dirección de la luz, las primeras me quedaron un poco subexpuestas pero creo que los resultados son buenos o ustedes que opinan?

After the first mistake, which can't really be considered as such because I was checking my scene, I took this image that was quite underexposed, at the moment of lifting the shadows it generated noise that doesn't look bad, but if it was a work for printing or for a client, I wouldn't give him a picture like this, but as a sample of the progress of my technique, it's good to include it in the post.

Después del primer error, que en realidad no se puede considerar así porque estaba revisando mi escena, tomé esta imagen que quedo bastante subexpuesta, al momento de levantar las sombras me genero ruido que no se ve mal, pero si fuera un trabajo para impresión o para un cliente, no le entregaría una foto así, pero como muestra sobre el avance de mi técnica, está bien incluirla en el post.

As you can see in the previous image, I left only two cigars coming out of the box, and as a photographic rule, it's better to leave 3, since that's what the rule of odds says, with this in mind and even deciding which is the best light for my scene I kept taking pictures, besides I was focusing on the keys, but I said: fuck it! My subject of interest is the cigarettes and the lighter.

Como pueden ver en la anterior imagen, dejé sólo dos cigarros saliendo de la caja, y por regla fotográfica, es mejor dejar 3, ya que así lo dice la regla de los impares, con esto en mente y aún decidiendo cual es la mejor luz para mi escena seguí haciendo fotografías, además de que estaba enfocando sobre las llaves, pero dije: al demonio! Mi sujeto de interés son los cigarros y el encendedor.

I liked this light, but I kept taking pictures because I wanted it to be a little better exposed so I could have better control in post production.

Esta luz me gustó, pero seguí haciendo fotos porque quería que estuviera un poco mejor expuesta para poder tener un mejor control en post producción.

At the top right, I had a bottle of wine that actually ended up playing against me, it's funny to see that in the edition everything looks perfect and when exporting too, but when I go to hive the compression makes some very ugly pixels appear, is this photo just let in a little more light from the flash.

En la parte superior derecha, tenía una botella de vino que en realidad terminó jugando en mi contra, es curioso ver que en la edición todo se ve perfecto y a la hora de exportar también, pero al subir a hive la compresión hace que se vean unos pixeles muy feos, es esta foto sólo deje entrar un poco más de la luz del flash.

Here should be the cover image of this post, it was the one I liked the most and I was satisfied, I just made a virtual copy to make another edition.

Aquí debería de ir la imagen que está de portada de éste post, fue la que más me gusto y quedé satisfecho, solo hice una copia virtual para realizar otra edición.

And the last picture, I moved the light a little bit to give more texture, or at least that was my intention, I don't notice much change but I think it looks good in black and white.

Y la ultima foto, moví un poco la luz para poder dar más textura, o al menos esa era mi intención, no se nota mucho el cambio pero creo que quedó bien en blanco y negro.
