More Photo Experiments - Nikon D40

DSC_0107.jpg

As I am having an enormous amount of difficulty doing simple actions on the blockchain this morning(not sure what the issue is; it's almost as if I don't have RC but that's not the case), and I am having severe writer's block; I decided to upload a few more photos I've taken experimenting with a couple lenses a friend of mine is letting me borrow.

DSC_0944.jpg

In my last post I explained that I had a camera sitting around collecting dust for the past few years I had lost interest in. Recently my friend randomly dug out an old Nikon lens from the floor of his VW and asked if I wanted to hold onto it for a bit. Fast forward a couple days; and he would show up at my door with another.

DSC_0842.jpg

I don't know why I feel the need to explain this every time but I in no way consider myself a photographer. I guess I just don't want to give off the impression that I am pretending to be knowledgable about cameras or anything like that. I just like to use them.

I decided I would periodically post some of my experiments here. Not all of them are necessarily good photos, just ones I like. As I have never been much a photo editor; other than editing silly phone photos for Instagram; all of these photos are unedited. I learned to shoot on film and maybe that contributes to, what I would not call a disinterest in photo editing software, my complete forgetfulness about the subject. It's something that doesn't even cross my mind as an option.

I would like to get access to some software and start playing around with editing. The same friend who lent me the lenses informed me that nowadays you can access Adobe suite on a relatively affordable month-by-month basis online. While I am currently not in a position to spend any money whatsoever, what with the winter coming up and my having just applied for a new, more stable and better paying job within the ski resort I work for, maybe it's something I will be able to play around with in the near future.

These are all random photos from the past few weeks. I usually forget to take the camera with me(something I really need to get better at); but occasionally I actually manage to get it out of the car with us when we are exploring Vermont between responsibilities. We live in such a beautifully rural place that it couldn't be easier(given you know the area) to go to wonderful places without even being close to others. The recent ending of our quarantine as well has allowed us to make it out in "public" a little bit as well. And by public I mean the skatepark. Not much else going on here in terms of socializing.

Having Isi and Raiden as models makes trying to use a camera so much easier and more fun. With their natural good looks, it's impossible not to take a decent photo. Even if the composition completely sucks; their beauty makes up for it.

My camera won't recognize that there is a lens attached with these older lenses. Therefore it forces me to shoot full manual; focus as well. My friend told me that as kind of a disclaimer when lending me the lenses- although I prefer it that way. It forces me to try to understand what I'm doing more and feels a lot better when I get a decent product.

I'm going to try to do this more often. I hope these aren't too horrible. <3

These are some awesome pictures you took! I like the close up with blurred backgrounds, I love those types, personally!

I'm having some issues voting and commenting, not sure what the deal is with that lol pre-hardfork issues, not cool!

Thank you! Yeah I love that style as well. It's a natural effect with these lenses I have been using; it's really hard to get it right but once I do it's pretty rewarding.

I'm also having the same issues. It sucks, but in a weird way I'm also glad it's not just me. It was getting pretty frustrating this morning. And I do think it probably has something to do with the HF

What I tried and it seems to have worked is I changed my node that I'm directed towards. I was using Blocktrades but I switched to Anyx and it's been working fine since.

What lens were you using for these pictures? Just curious!

Both of the lenses I used were found in clearance bins by my friend who used to be a professional photographer. I believe he said he got both of them for $10 total; despite their quality. I'm assuming because of their age; and also it sounded like he found these at sales where photo businesses with a remarkably high stock quantity that were going out of business; so they were in a rush to sell as much as they could. They are both Nikon NIKKOR lenses; one a 50mm 1:1.4 and the other a 80-200mm 1:4

I'd say he got a hell of a deal on them as I just presearched them(thank you for reminded me of Presearch!! I was amazed I could still remember my credentials to log into my old account) and the 50mm new is valued at around $450. Granted, this one is several decades old and slightly damaged; but still.

He unfortunately had to sell all his camera gear to buy tools when he transitioned to becoming a mechanic. He said he still has a suitcase full of old lenses that he keeps meaning to bring to me to borrow. He shot all Nikon and apparently all Nikon lenses are interchangable; so they should all fit my little DSLR. The lenses are what re-sparked my interest in photography!

He literally dug these out of the back seat of his car while he was helping me fix an exhaust issue in my own car one day. Super grateful for him

Damn that’s awesome man! We just bought ourselves a 50mm lens and it’s incredible! My DSLR is about 10 years old now and we thought it was taking bad pictures from old hardware and mirrors but it was the lens! Once we slapped the new one on, it took amazing pictures again.

Your friends pretty awesome, I love how things like that happen!

Took this with the 50mm and I’ve been really happy with the outcome!

Yo awesome photo!! And I couldn't be more on the same page. I acquired my camera about 10 years ago and it was very used at the time- I have no idea how old it actually is. I got so bored with the thing and thought I needed to thoroughly refurbish the thing, or alternatively, just thought it was a really bad cheap camera. Either way, the lens completely changed my mind!

Yeah I’m glad we didn’t go through the process of buying a new camera. We can afford it but it’s spending that we could really do without, especially since there’s lots of financial stuff happening we are trying to insulate ourselves from.

Glad you were able to just use a better lens!

Don’t worry man, you’ll get there! The better thing for me with a lot of people is just the interaction! I enjoy the discussion, your votes will get better over time!

These are wonderful photos, with an enjoyable feel and of great quality...no need to edit them, I would say 😉..and this comes from someone who always edit her photos, but that's because it is the way I can reflect an atmosphere 😁
