Hace dos noches me enteré que tengo astrafilia. No es una rara enfermedad, tampoco un trastorno mental (aunque de poetas y locos todos tenemos un poco, dicen por allí). Afortunadamente no es un parásito en mi estómago, ni un hongo en mi piel.

Pero antes de seguir con el tema de la astrafilia, quiero hablarte de los rayos. Según el sitio web Muy Interesante, “los rayos son descargas eléctricas que se producen por los desequilibrios entre las nubes y la superficie de la Tierra”. La mayoría de estas magníficas descargas eléctricas, ocurren dentro de las propias nubes. Agrega el sitio web que “durante una tormenta, las partículas de lluvia, hielo o nieve que chocan dentro de las nubes aumentan el desequilibrio entre las nubes y el suelo. Estos choques provocan que se separen las cargas eléctricas, ya que la carga positiva (protones) se queda en la parte superior de la nube mientras que la carga negativa (electrones) permanece en la parte inferior”. ¿Entendiste? Si así fue, te felicito, porque yo no entendí nada.

Lo que sí entiendo más, es que los maravillosos rayos son extremadamente calientes, tan calientes que se estima que puede producir en el aire un calor 5 veces más intenso que la temperatura de la superficie del Sol. Este calor hace que el aire se expanda y vibre, lo que origina el sonido muchas veces ensordecedor que escuchamos poco después de ver un relámpago, que es el efecto visual de un rayo. Mientras más cerca haya sido el rayo, mayor el ruido que percibiremos.

Este magnífico y embargador fenómeno de la naturaleza, no solo es espectacular, también es peligroso para nosotros. Aproximadamente 2000 personas mueren en el mundo cada año a causa de un rayo, según las estadísticas. Lamentable que los imponentes rayos produzcan tantos decesos, ¿verdad? Sin embargo es entendible que tanta energía, tanta magnificencia e imponencia tenga efectos devastadores. ¡Pero es que son energía pura, es un poder casi que sobrenatural! Tan así, que en tiempos antiguos se consideraba a los rayos como un síntoma de la molestia de los dioses.

Cada vez que llueve, al escuchar un trueno o percibir algún relámpago en el cielo, estando en mis posibilidades, me asomo a ver si tengo la suerte de ver rayos. De contar con ese privilegio, me quedo absorto observando tanta majestuosidad. Es indescriptible lo que siento cuando veo un rayo. Es como si esa ráfaga de energía y fuerza se inyectara en mi ser entero. Es una emoción inexplicable. En serio, no me pidas explicación, porque no la tengo. Solo sé que tengo una extraña pero muy firme fascinación por los rayos, relámpagos y truenos. Y que eso, hace dos noches luego de hacer las fotografías que están debajo, supe que tiene el nombre de astrafilia.
¿Ahora entiendes por qué tanta elocuencia al describirlos?

Estas fotos las tomé hace dos noches con mi teléfono Samsung J7 Prime. Desafortunadamente no pude captar un rayo en su plenitud, pero los relámpagos le dieron un toque espectacular a esas nubes, así como también a las hojas de los árboles entre ellas y el lente de la cámara de mi dispositivo. Espero las disfrutes. Fueron 115 fotos de las cuales, 112 fueron oscuras y solo estas 3 captaron el segundo exacto del relámpago.

But before I go on with the subject of astraphilia, I want to tell you about lightning. According to the website Very Interesting, "lightning is an electrical discharge caused by imbalances between clouds and the Earth's surface. Most of these magnificent electrical discharges occur within the clouds themselves. The website adds that "during a storm, particles of rain, ice or snow that collide within the clouds increase the imbalance between the clouds and the ground. These collisions cause electrical charges to separate, as the positive charge (protons) stays at the top of the cloud while the negative charge (electrons) remains at the bottom." Did you understand? If so, I congratulate you, because I did not understand anything.

What I do understand more, is that the wonderful rays are extremely hot, so hot that it is estimated that it can produce in the air a heat 5 times more intense than the surface temperature of the Sun. This heat causes the air to expand and vibrate, which gives rise to the often deafening sound we hear shortly after seeing lightning, which is the visual effect of lightning. The closer the lightning has been, the greater the noise we will perceive.

This magnificent and arresting phenomenon of nature is not only spectacular, it is also dangerous for us. According to statistics, approximately 2,000 people are killed by lightning worldwide every year. It is unfortunate that lightning strikes cause so many deaths, isn't it? However, it is understandable that so much energy, so much magnificence and imposingness has devastating effects, but they are pure energy, an almost supernatural power! So much so, that in ancient times lightning was considered a symptom of the discomfort of the gods.

Every time it rains, when I hear thunder or perceive some lightning in the sky, being in my possibilities, I look out to see if I am lucky enough to see lightning. If I have that privilege, I remain absorbed observing so much majesty. It is indescribable what I feel when I see lightning. It is as if that burst of energy and force is injected into my entire being. It is an inexplicable emotion. Seriously, don't ask me for an explanation, because I don't have one. I just know that I have a strange but very firm fascination with lightning, thunder and lightning. And that that, two nights ago after taking the pictures below, I learned that it has the name astraphilia.
Now do you understand why so much eloquence in describing them?

These pictures I took two nights ago with my Samsung J7 Prime phone. Unfortunately I wasn't able to capture lightning in its fullness, but the lightning gave a spectacular touch to those clouds, as well as the tree leaves between them and the camera lens of my device. I hope you enjoy them. There were 115 photos of which 112 were dark and only these 3 captured the exact second of the lightning.
