iOS 14: SD Savvy Photographers Beware

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to gripe a little bit, frustrated with the iOS experience with pictures, specifically importing / exporting with the latest iOS phone version.

In a different note, here’s some snow on the peaks of the mountain on our day trip today to see some fall colors! Crazy stuff!

Expandable Storage

If you’re an iOS user did you know you can use apps to expand the storage on your phone? I didn’t really know until my wife told me about it and I had my life changed!

If you’re like us, you love to take lots of pictures with either your phone or camera of various types. One of the best things we have learned about was the ability to use an app to connect your phone to an SD card. The phones have decent storage these days but having the ability to transfer pictures to the SD card and free up some space on your phone is great! We do have a laptop but it’s clunky to have to take it out in order to just upload and post some pictures. If it continues to plague me, I will have to get used to that method. It does make typing a lot faster and easier so that’s a plus lol

Personally we have been using the X-Disk app to transfer the pictures from our phones and have had great success! The hardware we use is varied but we’ve had the best luck with the Wing Gate little extension stick. It’s got the top things on it; iOS lightning plug, android micro USB plug and a USB 2.0 plug for the computer, alongside the SD card slot of course. This makes transferring images quick work and very easy!

...until iOS 14.1 the latest version I just updated to. I have lost all ability to transfer pictures between the phone and card and it’s crazy how you get used to doing something until it won’t work! I’m going to submit a support request with Apple to let them know of the issue. The biggest pain about it was that I was waiting a few weeks to update as I normally do because I let other people learn the bugs and kinks before I jump in. I’ve unfortunately found a bug!

Pictures Using SD Reader

Here are some of the cool pictures that I have taken that I needed to use the SD card reader and importer for my phone in order to share and post them.

These were all taken on our Canon DSLR with a 50mm lens but then uploaded to my phone so I could share them!

This was from our trip to Florida at the beginning of this year. Was nice that the room we were in let us see the sunset! Gotta love the golden hour of photography!

Was just messing around with background blurring settings to see if I could get it right. Liked this one!

Had to share some pictures of the great fall colors around us.
