Christmas Tree Photography

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I took some shots of our new Christmas tree that I wanted to share!

So one of our favorite times of the year is certainly Christmas. It has gotten increasingly special as our son gets older so that’s been a blast to experience with him. He really understands Santa and presents this year, he kind of got it last year but not really. This year it’s a lot different!

We spent this weekend fixing and putting up all the Christmas stuff. The fixing part is coming out in another post lined up for a few days from now but that will come later, too tired to write that one up lol.

I’m sorry if I’m a broken record but I really love the 50mm lens we bought this year! This thing is badass, it takes such cool pictures, it’s hard not to take it out sometimes! I knew that once we were almost one decorating, I wanted to take a few snaps of some of the cool ornaments on the tree. Some are more personal so those won’t make it on here but we do have some pretty neat ones.

We got these really cool elongated raindrop looking ones in a set of shatter free ornaments and I think they look cool, much different than what I’m used to as a kid.

This one here is a classic bulb, in my opinion! I particularly like the sparkly nature of it, the shiny ones are cool but the sparkly ones really make it pop!

Here’s another of the elongated raindrop ornaments, I prefer the darker blue color of this one to the lighter shade on the other one.

Here’s the tree all lit up. We still have some beads and other ornaments to put on but we are doing it a little slower so that or son gets to help us and participate more. He has a lot of fun and tends to get a little rambunctious so we try not to do it too quickly, so we can have him help at more stages before he occupies himself with something else.

What do your decorations look like? We would love to do exterior decorating but living in a condo, they don’t take kindly to that, the Scrooge’s. We at least have really big wreaths on all of the doors of the building, love when those go up. They smell great!

That's a legit Christmas tree mate, and nice photos.

We've got ours up too, there's even a few gifts under there - Santa must be getting an early start; Australia is a long way from the North Pole after all.

I bet the big fella, E-dog is excited right? Such a good time of year with kids around. Last year we had my brother and his wife here and my nephew was so funny on Christmas morning...We'll miss them this year, but it'll still be good.

Thanks man, it's big lol we would have never had room if we didn't chop up the broken couches last week! It would have felt like a sardine can lol. Scary and hilarious part is it already fell over in the middle of the night the other night! Scared the shit out of me lol.

The little man is absolutely pumped for Christmas, particularly because we sing songs every night before bed and we’ve been singing frosty, Rudolph and jingle bells for the past two months lol. He just started the other day saying we need to make cookies because we need to leave them out for Santa, as in tonight, not Christmas because Santa might come early lol. We have two presents under there already but we are waiting to see if he’s devious and opens them when one of us is in the bathroom, that’s always when he strikes hahaha.

It’s definitely a lot of fun with them at this time, I can only imagine how much better it’s going to be this year, last year was his first great understanding year so it was a blast. The toughest part is with me working remotely and the wife’s business going bananas, his bedroom is now the office so he sleeps in the living room, near the tree lol he’s a solid sleeper but solid enough to not wake up the presents being brought? We’ll see!

This is our favorite ornament from last year, we had professional photos done it was nice, and we got a good pic of Enzo.

Lol...I can imagine you operating out of your bedroom in the middle of the night, gun in hand, eyes wide as saucers looking for an intruder only to find the sad demise of your gargantuan Christmas tree!

The little bloody scallywag! Although the key take-away here is that he is smart enough to know exactly when the most opportune time to strike is! Lol. Have you considered getting one of those trail cameras people use to track game in the wilderness? Although that would only catch him in the act, not prevent it. I remember making a pre-emptive strike upon the Christmas presents one year, I must have been 6 or 7. Walkie talkies was the gift that year, one for me and one for my older brother. I was excited about the walkies (we rarely got new things) but felt bad for Santa afterwards - All that work he went to getting those walkies into the house.

I don't know, it sort of makes me sad because my parents didn't have much to go around and I kind of ruined their moment. I remember thinking that a few years later when I was tempted to do it again, and it stopped me, so you can teach an old G-dog new tricks it seems.

Sorry, this comment got a little depressive. Lol.

I think it's great that you and Siena do this family oriented stuff, that it means a lot for you as a family. I like that and it's what I would do if I had a family of my own.

By the way, you're going to have to lock the E-dog up eventually, with his killer looks and all...The laydeez will be swooning.

Lol thanks man, I know, we will have trouble with him especially because he loves people and talks to and plays with kids his age whenever he can. I think I was really shy as a kid lol.

Where we are, the condo is incredibly safe so I wasn’t worried about someone being in the house thankfully lol. My wife was scared and single when she bought it years ago so the safety standards are way higher than I would have looked for in a unit lol. We have a front door downstairs that’s locked and a hallway with a bunch of neighbors and doors. Our door has 2 deadbolts on it so if the person smashed down the front door (someone tried to do that in another of the buildings years ago) they wouldn’t get far before someone called the police, and even worse trying to get into our door. I knew it was the tree that fell over I was just scared it broke all kinds of shit lol thankfully the only casualty was an ornament!

I haven’t considered the trail cam just yet, thankfully our son is an awful liar lol he takes after my dad for that. If he does something he shouldn’t be, as soon as you just look at him even if you’re just normally looking, he blushes and says “nothing!” Even if we hadn’t the slightest idea he was doing something sketchy lol. Then we get it out of him pretty quickly, he can’t hold a secret for long. Once he starts getting better at that we will deploy little cameras if we need to. It would be hilarious to put one inside the Christmas tree!

Ah, yeah the opening of the presents early. I was always kind of curious about the presents but my parents had a section of the house that stored the lawnmower and stuff it was locked so for the most part the presents got hidden under there so we never saw them until Christmas. I do remember one year they tried to put some out and see what happened but my brother ruined it by opening his. I love surprises so I actually wouldn’t mind waiting. I was always excited opening things but I like the suspense of waiting so it’s more fun for me to wait and see what happens.

I know now that my dad really struggled and worked his ass off, way harder than he does now, to do what they could for us as kids so it definitely makes me a little sad that I wasn’t more appreciative than I am now. That’s sometimes the nature of being young though, you don’t have the real world experience or perspective to know how much it’s hard to do that stuff until you’re older. My brother and sister still don’t appreciate that shit at all but that’s another story for another day lol

Ah yes, you mention your brother and sister here, I recall you mentioning that scenario previously so whilst I don't know the details I understand the gist of it all. It's a shame people are like that, takers, but it takes all kinds and the satisfaction you guys get from doing your own thing, providing for yourselves, is probably quite high. Faith and I have always been the same. Just on the appreciation thing...It sounds like you're appreciative of what your folks did for you and that's what matters. You can't go back and change what you did so don't worry about it, just move forward in the way you feel it relevant and regret won't come knocking later. :)

Trail cameras in Christmas trees are a thing man, well they could be if you get it done. Maybe something to remember for future years when E's lying get's better - Let's hope that's not too soon huh?

Here's to the rest of the week, may your Christmas tree stand tall and not fall over and bust shit up! 😂

Thank you my friend :D decorating the trees have been a lot of fun with having the little man around to help. He's got his own unique way of doing things that makes it fun, challenging sometimes for sure, but fun!
