The Sun Sets Before Me

One of my worries about the city where I live is that I can't see the sunrise and sunset. When you live in a big city, in a big neighborhood, it is normal for your house to be surrounded by many other houses, smaller or taller. If the city is on the plain then you lose any chance to see the horizon, so you lose any chance to see the sunrise and sunset. Of course there are exceptions, if you live in a tall building, taller than the other buildings.

The sunrise and sunset, beyond the spectacular views of the sun and the colorful sky, also offer the image of a softer sun, less bright and of course, more tired. So less dangerous to our eyes and cameras.

I like the sun and I like to photograph it, I like to participate with my photos in @uwelang's contest. I participate regularly but it is difficult. In order to have good photos for the contest, you must, in my humble opinion, meet at least three conditions:

  • to have some notions of photographic art
  • to have a decent camera, now it also works with a smartphone
  • to have something spectacular to photograph, a landscape, a view, here being advantageous those who live closer to nature

I don't meet any conditions 100% so it will always be an exception when I succeed in something spectacular. Fortunately, this contest is about the sun, not necessarily photography, so the other forms of expression (video, music, writing) also matter.

For this twenty-second edition of the contest, I can put some photos of the sunset. I was lucky to be in the park next to the house at sunset, I say good luck because everything happens very quickly, in about five minutes the sun disappears behind the houses.

There is a quick walk in the park with the sun in my eyes.

Fortunately, the park is almost deserted, although it is only 7.30 PM. This helps me run after the sun without tripping over people.

In the middle of the park is a summer theater. That is, it was a summer theater, built in 1950. After 1990 it was closed and abandoned. It has deteriorated badly. Every time there are elections for mayor, in the election campaign everyone promises to repair and reopen this theater, but they never keep their word.

I like the construction inspired by ancient architecture. I like it, even so, degraded. Now I see the sunset beyond the theater.

As I said, the sun goes down very quickly beyond the houses in the neighborhood. The sunset can be seen in a very short time.

Then there is only the sky that seems to burn, behind the secular trees in the park. I also have a little nature near the house.

That's how I had the luck of an unexpected sunset in the city.
