A Golden Autumn in Burgundy, France

With lock-downs and other restrictions coming into force again across Europe, it probably helps the soul to have views like these at the bottom of your garden.

I was chatting to a friend who is without work right now and has spent the summer at home with her parents. It sounds better than it as as their house is big enough to keep your distance if you wish, and her mum is also an awesome cook.

This region of France has seen some impressive temperatures this year, and I believe that is only a good thing for the vineyards, which you can see above. I was lucky enough to visit this place a few summers ago and it looked stunning back then too, but I didn't see much of what has been recently foraged, shown below.

Yep, it turns out the French don't only eat frogs legs and snails, they like 'le champignon' and a variety of nuts too. I'm not sure what sauce you would have with mushrooms (mushroom?) or chestnuts, but I can imagine there will be sauce. Garlic perhaps? :P

Autumn in the UK has passed me by - I can't see any signs of change from my window, unless someone has forgotten to draw their curtains. And so due to this, I do need to be reminded of how awesome this month can be on the eye.

Roll on summer :P

Love that basket of mushrooms. How do you cook them?

Clean, chop, stick them in a saucepan with a bit of butter. Remove water from mushies as you go, add more butter + garlic (I knew garlic would be there!), parsley, and eggs if you wish.

Ah right. I like to make mushroom gravy with reduction sauces left over from lamb or duck. These more deep tasting mushrooms go well with various sauces. For first tastes of new mushrooms species I typically do the butter pan method just to get a feel for what I'm working with. I'm jealous of those boletes in the basket they are kind of rare around here.

Last Sunday we had our first snow, it wasn't much really to speak of other than to let us know fall was over. the beginning of Winter for us is a mixed bag of weather. Yesterday it started to rain, a mix at times of rain and some snow. The temperatures were running right close to freezing, 32 to 34 F. 0 to 1 C. It warmed through out the day and come time to sleep was holding a steady 36 F, and still raining like hell. The wind picked up right around 11 PM for us and continues even as I type this.

Looks like they had a variety of things to harvest, my idea any more is hoping there is something still semi fresh when I go to the grocery store to do some harvesting. We have a lot of mushrooms around where I live at times, but I would not know which ones were safe to eat and which ones were not.

Any more word yet on telecommuting from over seas?

I don't think I could take the climate where you are so far to the north, it sounds like nothing I appreciate at all!

We have a lot of mushrooms around where I live at times, but I would not know which ones were safe to eat and which ones were not.

Probably best to avoid then or get a good book!

Any more word yet on telecommuting from over seas?

Thanks for asking :) There have been a few more emails with questions and I think they are now at the point of saying yes or no. I think it's going to be a yes and have gotten my hopes up - a no would be a huge blow!

Things may look up for 2021, maybe Christmas on a nice Beach with a really nice looking Santa's helper. I don't think I will be beach combing on Christmas, it will likely be frozen solid.

That would be fine for me, but I think it'll be a solo mission this year. I think it'll be chilly, but no chance of frost that is for sure.

2021 is my year to get my act together, let's see how much goes to plan.

hahaha yes. That was a few weeks back. I actually got a chance today to post about the vineyards in champagne. It might be my last outing for a while unfortunately. I heard that France is going to announce weekend travel restrictions tonight. Not looking forward to that.

Even more important this year. People already started on those this year by the way.

Can you at least put a hole through them and attach a string to play 'conkers'? :)

Nice, colorful fields. We have snow on the ground in Montana and it is cold. Unseasonably so actually.

Ouch, I am not prepared for snow just yet - or ever!

Snow already? Seems a bit early for that right? When would it normally start?

We will often get a bit of snow at the end of October but it usually melts pretty quick and doesn't start accumulating until later into November. Some years not until January. But this winter is supposed to be colder and wetter than normal. Not looking forward to it.

Hmm, ok...Changes in weather patterns. We've had a very unusually cool October. Most had their heaters on early this week, blankets on and all. Should be 28-30 degrees.

Look out bro, here comes the next ice age.

Yeah, I am expecting it. Warming and cooling. The planet has done it many times before and will continue to do so.

You know, there are theories, with fairly compelling evidence based on science and not politics, that global warming is a myth and instead the Earth is indeed cooling...I read some studies about it, evidence gained from deep core samples taken all over the world. I can't say much on it as I don't want to mess up the information, but it was very fascinating.

Thanks for this...I used it as a virtual vacation from my desk at work. Hey, beggers can't be choosers right?

Looks likes it's a great spot, somewhere I'd feel quite comfortable to be.

Same as me - a vacay from the settee :)

Yeah, I can see why she's not made a great effort to look for her next job - home comforts and a really awesome place to spend the warmer seasons.

I love seeing autumn look normal over there, lol, in my country now at the end of October everything is still green. It's a damn scary and weird situation ..

The seasons seem to have delayed in the UK over the past 20 years too - but I'm sure the green will disappear soon enough.

When will things start to get cold and covered in snow?

0

It's already cold over here, we got -2 Celsius degrees in the morning with lots of fog but no snow yet. It would be really weird to see the white blanket over the green trees..

Is it strange that the trees are still green though? Sounds weird as I'd expect this late into Autumn that they would have turned already.

We're heading into Summer here soon and have had an unseasonably cool October...It's been very strange actually, although it'll heat up and get into the high 40's in no time. We'll be sweltering.

Also, did that package I sent you turn up? Those copper rocks? I would have thought they would be there by now. They left Australia ages ago and so I can't track them anymore. I hope they turn up.

It's very strange that the trees are not coloured already. Of course, this is not the situation for the whole country but at least here where I'm living they are green while the peaks of the mountains have snow already. We won't get any higher than 15-20 degrees, currently, we barely reach 10 during the day.

The package hasn't arrived yet, I was waiting for it and I still do, I really hope it will arrive and won't be lost on the way..

Yeah I figured it was odd...So you'll have snow for most of the winter I suppose...That would be good, in my opinion because I've hardly ever seen snow in my lifetime, but also bad. Cold though I guess. Lol...Snow is cold though, by nature. :)

Yep, I hope it turns up. It's just a little package so I hope it doesn't just go missing. Also with all the covid stuff I've heard mail services are dodgy. I have some things to send my niece in Finland but have been advised not to as it might not make it.

That view is great, the vineyards in fall, and nice harvest of mushrooms and nuts, the colors of fall are very enjoyable and here in Stockholm there is a lot of leaf tree's in yellow and red to admire, plus also lots of water between the islands, a great way to motivate my Actifit stepping lol.

So I got notified about a reply yesterday after rewarding great comments in the I Am Alive Challenge Community with ENGAGE tokens from the @iamalivechalleng account, and it said that I had reached the daily limit.

How does this work exactly, is it a limt per account or just a daily limit for all rewards together on every account, does it help to reduce the tokens that I distribute per comment, or that more people also have the ability to reward with this token?

Thanks for your great work.
