Reliving Old Music Productions - Break The Beat (Breakbeat)

It can't all be Drum & Bass at Havey HQ but one genre I tried my hand at last year can be thought of as a slower variant of the dnb genre called Breakbeat. Not that I'm an expert on anything outside (or even arguably INside) the realms of Drum & Bass but I decided to slow down the project tempo to a gentle 140 BPM and see what happens. The creativity of coming up with the title of the track was probably lacking seeing as there are quite a few tracks called "Break the Beat" but I did spend at least a little more time in the production side of it! I'll let you enjoy it here whilst I type some more:

Out Of Our Comfort Zone

Branching out of the usual genre can be quite exciting as you learn a plethora of new skills and production tips that you may not have considered before and that was the case with this one. I thought I'd try out something different with the bassline and went for "let's go f***ing crazy" and see what happens! Plenty of chops and changes in the programming of the patterns applied to the bassline in the music software which drove my laptop in to hyperdrive at the time but in the end, I think it turned out alright!

I remember being pretty vexed at the time of making this one and, as with all my tracks, I channeled the emotions in to the tunes with the focus going in to making that bassline as big as I could! It wasn't until 2020 that I teamed up with @bufinjer to put a whole collection of tunes together that were out of our comfort zone in a 9 track EP called... "Out of Our Comfort Zone"! Again, creativity on the tunes is probably our focal point haha! In that EP though, we really pushed ourselves and you can catch the full EP here which features tunes ranging from dubstep, Hardstyle, drumstep, breakbeat and more!

In other news, I decided to do a complete back up of the latest files on my PC and spare hard drive which is going to take another week or so and then I need to try and find all the installation files for the various digital instruments I used in the software which is proving challenging to find as it's been quite a few years since I last did it - the memory isn't quite as sharp as it once was! Hope I can get that sorted as would be cool to go through some videos and show you how I make these tracks!

Anyway, hope you enjoy this one!

Nicky

It has that old school feeling for sure. I really enjoy that mould of breakbeat drum and bass with trance and the little flourishes throughout that you add in to keep it from feeling too repetitive (which is usually the case with many tracks out there).

Drum and bass lover here so I'm looking forward to hearing some more of your work! Good job.

Thanks a lot mate! Yeah I do like the old school vibes, think they never left me all this time! Always tried to keep the tunes moving along with some subtle changes throughout so glad you enjoyed that!

I'll start sharing more dnb this coming week and some of my favourites over the years as well 😁

I grew up in South Florida where the breakbeat and drum & bass scene were pretty big at one point. Baby Anne and Icey were two of my favorites; tried to catch them at a show whenever I could.
If you've ever heard of Ultra, I used to go when there wasn't even security. It was just a party by the beach.

This took me back :)

Thanks a lot Alex! Please share a link to those tracks, would love to hear them! I enjoyed a few Aquasky mixes from the mid 2000s that had some pounding breakbeat tunes but I don't know breakbeat artists. I've not heard of Ultra but a party by the beach sounds like a great way to spend the day/night! Hope we get to do those again very soon!

It was fun making those tracks for me too on Out of our Comfort Zone! Thanks for the mention Nicky. I like trying new styles, and I think you do great stuff no matter what style you do!
