Original vs Covers #7 - I Don't Want to Miss a Thing

OriginalvsCovers7.jpg

I don't know should I just concentrate right now to a #SadSunday post, as it would be so nicely inspired with this sad week for cryptocurrencies. All that music that can be described as dramatic and pathetic, that came out from the pen of the composers which had maybe some different trigger to write that music. Broken heart, failure, rejection by society, illness, death, remorse, injustice, financial collapse... Anything can be an inspiration for a sensitive person, however, not just unfortunate things make them a call for action.

Good events are also a reason to celebrate and express feelings through musical language, which will happen in this song that we will listen to today. A romantic song, inspired by love to another person, composed and performed by a hard rock band! Don't run away, it will not be that hard rock style that disperses the listeners. Stay and listen to the original song, I Don't Want to Miss a Thing, by Aerosmith.

Of course, not just the original song can be found in this #OriginalvsCovers post. There will be some interesting covers, at least I find them interesting, and the most important thing, a #hive user guest. If you are not familiar with the idea, you can check out my previous posts on this topic, at the end of this publication you can find the links to them.

ORIGINAL SONG: Aerosmith - I Don't Want to Miss a Thing

Aerosmith, a band whose members had some major drug problems, remains active since 1970. They are influenced by blues and rock and roll but formed their own hard rock sound that was later an example for other hard rock and heavy metal bands. They have released 15 studio albums (plus 6 live albums, 16 compilation albums), and also contributed some music to films, television and video games. For example, this song is the love theme, from the 1998 film Armageddon. Steven Tyler's daughter Liv is starring there, and we can see her in this music video too. The song was nominated for an Academy Award and this slow ballad opened Aerosmith up to a new generation of listeners.

COVER 1 by PostmodernJukebox

First cover - first-class also, not just first in this order. Look and listen to this vintage style, 1920's type of cover. It is absolutely adorable, the whole brass band sound, the pianist is awesome, but the singer, oh my, she is the queen! Love her interpretation and voice. Ooooow, it made me move while listening and writing. Like dancing in a sitting position :D . I am so happy I saw this cover, it had to come here! Do you agree? PostmodernJukebox, if there will be an opportunity to listen to you in a live version, I would not like to miss it as I suppose it would be an unforgettable experience.

COVER 2 by The Trumpet Man

Trumpet man, you play so well your instrument, so professional sound, worked out very well the lead melody. Although it is just upon the accompaniment of the original song his playing made me choose him as well, and we have never had a trumpet cover in this series. I could take a look at what more he has from covers, I think it is worthy to include him sometimes. Well done dear trumpet man!!

COVER 3 by Amélie Guiboux

We have never had a harp cover either. Just so so so nice to listen to an original hard rock band ballad played on a harp. And she is doing great. So concentrated as playing the harp is not as easy it seems. When I went to middle music school, the harp section opened and some students started. Through friend talks, we listened to their struggles in learning and how they have to take care of their fingers and fingertips. A very interesting instrument and nice cover. Thanks, Amelie.

COVER 4 by Barbershop Harmony Society

Responding to the question of this Barbershop Harmony Society guy "How many of you remember the summer of 1998?" I can say I remember it, together with all those summers I spent in my home town, taking some break from studying and just enjoying the calmer pace of everything. But I would be lying to say I remember the movie Armageddon from that summer, I am pretty sure I was not interested then to watch it but in music, I was and still am interested. So the same interest is here now to listen to this cool cover, also different than the other ones. Four voices gathered to make perfect harmonies and providing us goosebumps from this shower of emotions. It gives the feeling that they even breathe together. Nice!

COVER 5 by @marijocnt

You who will read this, please don't think in a wrong way but I am absolutely in love with this! A young violin player, @marijocnt, who plays perfectly, and has a so professional approach. Hard work had to be done for this amazing cover! Do you see how many recordings had to be done, put together, match? Fully appreciate her efforts and the great result that was on the liking of many! Congratulations Marijocnt for your every post, quality and high-level playing, writing, engaging! Don't ever think to stop bringing this quality content to #hive, and be a perfect example to all of us! This series of yours is such a cool concept!!!

The original Aerosmith version I knew, of course, though it was never my taste. To be honest, I preferred the kind o hard rock that disperses the crowds (hehehehe).

But the Postmodern Jukebox was fantastic! What do you call that style anyway? Big Band? Dixieland? Anyway, I really liked it.

I didn't know what to expect from Trumpet Man, but wow! Such a lovely, clean sound! Beautiful. Same can be said about Amélie Guiboux's harp version.

Studio 4's vocal version I'm not so sure about. Usually I like acapella, and reading about the goosebumps it caused you, I was quite excited to hear it. It was okay, but far from having the same effect.

But your featured Hive guest! WOW!!! Those various recordings, pieced together perfectly, is simply amazing! Great job, @marijocnt !

Yes, Postmodern Jukebox is the reason I said you to check out, how different they made it. I would call it also dixieland. And the trumpet guy, great one. The acapella I like and always make me the same impact any of acapella groups (if they are goo of course) as the human voice is something that comes from our lungs, heart and it even don't have to have lyric, just vocalising, with the proper discrete vibration and breathing.. 🙌
Although I am just an instrumentalist, hahaha, so maybe because of that, as I am not able to sing at any close to that level 🤣

The work that the hive gust made here is awesome!

Hahaha, it was around countless campfires that I learned that quality singing is not even that important, if you're singing from the heart. And singing from the heart sounds nice even if you don't hit all the right notes.

That is true. Having a great time around a campfire does not require professional singing skills but it is awesome. Last time we were on camp many many years (decades) ago...

Also, setting a campfire is not allowed in the area I live, because of the dry environment and risk of fire... So I would have to find some other alternative..or still stick to my piano playing at the moment ;D

:-) You don't need a campfire for a sing-along, though it sure helps for some reason. I know, fire hazard is a biggie. So instead of a campfire, maybe the flow of water? Walking along a river I've had a similar feeling that makes me want to sing. Kinda like taking a shower, or washing dishes.

Not bad idea :D Water, plenty of it in the sea.
However, that dish washing activity is more suitable :) And while driving alone, that is my place, nobody can hear me :P
