Georgia on My Mind...

I don't have a sister named Georgia ... Neither Georgia as State was in my mind when I recorded this piece. It was just the feeling the connected me this evening to this song. I came home from lessons and just like that decided to play this song, Georgia on My Mind.
Hoagland Howard, an American singer and songwriter wrote the music, and his friend from the University and roommate actually, Stuart Gorrell, the lyrics. Strange, as he never wrote again other lyric as he became a banker.

In the beginning, it was not clear did Hoagland thought about his sister Georgia or the state... But Gorell, in one letter many years later wrote what happened one cold evening in 1930 in New York. Hoagland and he had cold feet but warm hearts while looking outside from the third-floor apartment window where they lived. They were thinking about the Southland and a song was written...

Here it comes, just in the piano version. I have it in one of my books of jazzy pieces, but I don't play it exactly how it is written. I added some rhythmical changes in some measures and some broken, decorative chords in the right hand... Could not play it again in the same way, so the next time would be with a different variation.

The angle of recording. My future piano student @bertrayo will be happy, I hope :) Next time will experiment to record with the piano in other position, in the way the nutty columnist preferred ;D

A really soothing piece. I can imaging getting warm just listening to the notes. Don't know about classes. I don't own a keyboard so that will have wait. However, I like the angle to watch your playstyle.

No lessons ? Oh... :D

Anyway, you rock on that mandolin and maracas, so no need to an additional instrument :)

Hey, the piano lessons would be great. But I can't practice so it wouldn't work :P

I needed those back when I used to go as choir conductor. I certainly was a mess trying to get rehearsals with a piano.

Ay, ay 😁

But as a conductor, you needed to play difficult accompaniment part? The choir conductor here for example doesn't play. When the singers warm up they warm up acapella, with his given intonation. And when they already practise the songs, his wife plays the piano part.

Sometimes when she sings as well as there are no enough members now coming to rehearsal (cov.reason) then they ask me to come and play.

You don't conduct anymore?

I did give notes to the voices one at a time. It was slow but I managed. Most of the repertoire was acapella but some other things needed rhythmical harmony so a cuatro did the trick. I don't do it anymore because I got onto jobs and traveled and also because choirs don't have any kind of support from the orchestra, so there's not a lot to do. Also the University was ransacked and that was the end of the University's choir. At some point, I was going to be given a choir in some school and that never happened. Thus I slowly stepped away from my duties in the choirs.

Oh, that is a pity there is no support for choirs. And that you have never be given the school choir. Although, children are amazing but in schools, not every child is interested in singing...so maybe it is better for you! Now you only have to conduct your twins when recording a music video 😁

Ha, ha, ha. I leave that part to the metronome. Well, I wasn't exactly jumping on one foot over the idea of conducting a choir of children.

Classical = too strong roots, never will go away 🤣. Anyway, that was it from jazzy mipiano haha.

Yeah, I was not sure will that swinging left hand go well, so it was just a tiny addition in one or two bars 😌

So, what color do you think it is? The bug...

You know, some real good jazz players had strong classical roots, like Nina Simone that you talked about in a recent post, or even a guy called Bobby McFerrin.

So, what color do you think it is? The bug...

Well if it's jazz, it's blue for sure 😄

Oh, Nina Simone 💚💚💚 (and your cover of Sinnerman 🤩 )

Bobby McFerrin, OMG I was just thinking yesterday about him and a video I saw, time ago, about the pentatonic scale
Very interesting . One of my very loved songs is Don't Worry Be Happy 😁

Blue, blue... getting back to that colour

One of the most versatile musician. If you have time go watch his duet with pianist Chick Correa at the Montreux Jazz Festival...

How not! During one summer played with a jazz singer almost every night, and she talked about him and his style a lot :)
