Elegy for the Arctic - Ludovico Einaudi

It’s Sunday, the day I like to post the #SadSunday post, but every other week. Today would be that day. Last night I recorded a video of me playing, but today was a day a bit different than a usual Sunday. First of all, today is Easter, so the day went at a slower pace. We called our parents and relatives, and our dear friends from Valencia announced that they were coming to visit. I love seeing them, they are so crazy and positive, and even though they let me know they are coming to our little town in an hour, it doesn’t matter. The day may go differently than we planned. These days, it is very important that we use every opportunity for socialization.

The composition I chose to play yesterday is one of those famous written by the Italian composer, Ludovico Einaudi. Elegy For The Arctic. A few days ago @gulia.peito mentioned this composition. Some of my students played it, so I already had the score, but here I play it a little differently. I play some variation to the original, changing a few octaves in the left hand. Also, I think I played the F minor scale passages in the middle of the composition slightly faster than Ludovico plays it in the iceberg. Ah, iceberg? Have you seen the video? Nice one, I recommend watching it.

We see in the video a grand piano and a man in one iceberg. Looking at it more closely, we see that it is not a real iceberg, it is a platform. Of course, it is, no one would put a real piano at such a risk. So it is a 2.6 x 10-meter platform and it consists of more than 300 wooden triangles joined together. Above it, the grand piano is placed.
He composed this especially at the request of Greenpeace, as part of a campaign to protect ice and glaciers in the Arctic in 2016.

I shot the video, like I said, last night, and I recorded it in a vertical position to see what it would look like. The sound was recorded via the audio interface and I hope you close your eyes and enjoy the sound. I still need to learn some special effects to add, although I don't think there is any need if this is the kind of composition in question. But that is what you listeners will judge, whether you like it or not. Do not hesitate to say your opinion.
I greet you on this Easter day, which I passed in the company of friends and in good vibes. So it's not a SadSunday post :))

Happy Easter!!

I immediately noticed that something was wrong with this iceberg! You play the piano so well! You probably studied for a long time! 🎹🎶

Hahaha, something was wrong the the iceberg 😂, yes! I studied for a long time, it is true. 14 years of studying (in my country it was 6 year elementary music school, 4 years middle music school and 4 years of university) and adding up all the years I play as I didn't stop to play, sooooo a lot of time 🤣
But still I could learn a lot more things 😁

14 years⁉️ Wow !!!!!!!! I wouldn't be able to study for so long! But it's worth what you're doing so well now! 😯🙂🎶🎹
