This beautiful ballad is one of the most classic songs of the repertoire of this band led by the master Jeff Lynne and managed to lead the rankings throughout Europe with these wonderful chords.

The story goes that thanks to the album A New World Record, the guys of the Electric Light Orchestra were very happy because they managed to match the success of their previous piece titled Face The Music. They repeated the same musical formula, which was represented in making songs with masterful musical arrangements.

One of the most notable musical pieces of that golden age of the band is "Telephone Line", whose authorship belongs to Jeff Lynne, and became one of the most acclaimed ballads in the history of the group.

The magic of the song goes beyond the music, as it contains phenomenal lyrics that use a narrator who wants to talk to his beloved, but the woman doesn't answer and his only "consolation prize" is to talk about his grief to a telephone operator.

Lynne had the luxury of creating a melodrama whose lines are memorable. A good example is the part that says: "I look into the sky/The love you need ain't gonna see you through" and the chorus part " Oh, telephone line/Give me some time/I'm living in twilight."

To that beautiful poetry, Lynne and company devised a beautiful music, full of orchestral arrangements that go beyond a simple accompaniment. In fact, many music critics have warned that this song can easily be recognized as a classical mini-symphony mixed with good rock instruments.

This song entered the Top Ten in both the United Kingdom and the United States, reaching #8 in the UK and #7 in the US, where it also achieved the band's first Platinum album in North America.
It also topped the charts in New Zealand, Austria, Germany, Holland, Sweden and Switzerland.
