It was 1984 and George Michael needed a fresh idea for his new album. A memory came to his mind: a note written by his duet partner Andew Ridgeley. Could that work? Between yoyos, stuttering and some pop dancing, the lyrics finally emerged. The title: Wake Me Up Before You GoGo, It lives up to that message Ridgeley left for Michael at that hotel room. Excited, George Michael decided to produce this song with some Jive among his scores. Without knowing it, he had managed to create one of the best hits of the time, getting into the number 1 position on charts such as the ** Billboard Hot 100 ** in the United States.

Whan! It is a British Boy Band duo that ventured into the Pop genre from 1981 to 1986, the year in which they separated. Her second album << Make It Big >> took off to the top with a total of 8 songs, including Wake Me UP Before You GoGo. Michael was the one who excelled the most as a composer, using his skills as a producer and instrumentalist to give that magical glow to each of his musical creations. Some references cite the author as a clear reference to other famous bands of the genre, among them Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, although such statements are mere speculations denied by the singer. The charisma of the duet and the ability of its rhythm was an icon at the time, being even today considered one of the best Boy Band of all time.

The lyrics of the song are simple if you analyze it in depth. A man who wants to dance, and whose desire expresses a woman who seems somewhat elusive. I could summarize the central axis of this song in a small fragment of it that says: << Wake me up before you go, don't leave me hanging here like a YO-YO >>. "He" is worried because "she" is disappearing, leaving him snoring in the quiet of the nap that serves as a barrier to that big step that he wants to take. Each verse is complemented under the slogan of swing that only offers pop, desperate heartbeats and funny insistence to consolidate a phenomenal couple dance. She drives him crazy, maybe he falls in love with that fragrance of that somewhat hard-to-convince dancer. Sticky and worthy of singing in the shower, Wake Me UP Before You GoGo is one of those songs you'll never stop dancing to.

3- Cyndi Lauper: Girls Just Want to Have Fun

Robert Hazard wanted to write a song that described the funny, womanizing, and fearless man that women sought out for a good time. However, when the lyrics for his creation came into the hands of Cyndi Lauper in 1983, she completely turned Robert's composition upside down. Why should a man be the one to take such absurd credit from the dominant sex? She changed the roles, giving a completely different meaning to "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" To the sound of synthesizers, Lauper describes the woman who only wants to be free and get out of that gray confinement to which she is subjected. The message of this new version did not link the fun of the girls to sex as the original lyrics did, rather it claimed the female voice that only wants to escape from the busy lives in which they are involved by work, study, etc. .

Cyndi Lauper focused on various musical genres such as Pop, Pop Rock, new wave and Pop Dance in which she conceived of her greatest hits. Girls Just Want to Have Fun belongs to the album "She's So Unusual", one of the best achievements of the singer. In it, Cyndi sought to break with stereotypes and give more prominence to women, a fact that led her to modify several of the lyrics of the proposals that her record company had in her hands. The album consisted of 7 singles, of which 5 reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100, and in which Girls Just Want to Have Fun ranked No. 2 in March 1984 for two weeks in a row.

In the lyrics of the song, a girl is questioned by her parents due to her somewhat rebellious attitude. However, she defends herself by saying that she only wants to have fun, making a subtle reference to getting out of stress, shining in the sun and putting aside those difficult problems that mark the agenda of work and even life. "They just want to have fun, “Cyndi intons, propelling a clear allegory of freedom. This singer formed a great movement with her voice and her clear orientation to assert female power, so much so that Girls Just Want to Have Fun considered a hymn to the empowerment of women.

2- Bonnie Tyler: Total Eclipse of the Heart

Jim Steinman was proud of her new musical composition, and now with the lyrics ready, he needed a voice that would mold his song to a perfect tune. It was then that he offered it to Meat Loaf, whose record company, convinced that the subject was not a "magnificent" piece of art, rejected Steinman's proposal. Jim did not give up of course, and resorted to the common sense of Bonnie Tyler, who with just a little reading knew immediately that such a song was a real gem, even shedding a few tears in the process. On February 11, 1983 Total Eclipse of the Heart was released to the world for the first time in the United Kingdom, shortly after becoming an unprecedented success… How did Meat Loaf fit your eye?

Total Eclipse of the Heart belongs to the fifth album by singer Bonnie Tyler entitled "Faster Than the Speed of Night", this being the most successful. With a total of 9 songs, Eclipse of the Heart was the song with which Tyler reached the global peak, becoming the most successful of all time. Unsurprisingly, after beautiful lyrics and a soul-stirring voice, Bonnie took No. 1 on the Billboard chart. This singer of British nationality known as The First Lady of Rock promoted musical genres such as Pop, Rock, Country, and Soft Rock among others, and is considered a precursor of them.

Total Eclipse of the Heart pertenece al quinto álbum de la cantante Bonnie Tyler titulado “Faster Than the Speed of Night”, siendo éste el más exitoso.

The lyrics are very significant, and inquire into the agony of a heart overshadowed by the pain of love loss. A woman resists forgetting all her memories of her glory with that being who made her feel loved, but now withers her alone on a cold night. Restlessness, agony and sadness intermingle to shine in the voice that refuses to accept the reality that threatens to destroy it. The musical composition is extremely magnificent, starting with a somewhat slow rhythm under the piano, and then turning to a drastic change with the addition of drums, bass and guitars. Total Eclipse of the Heart is a song that little can be forgotten, even 38 years after its release.

1- Queen: I Want to Break Free

John Deacon sought to express the free spirit in its entirety in the lyrics of I Want to Break Free in 1984, which has become one of the most recognized songs of this band. There was a lot of controversy and even censorship, after in the official video all the members of Queen dressed as women, giving a visual message as well as a musical one. This theme inspired by transvestism, was silenced in the United States, so Queen did not take long to respond with the harsh punishment of ignoring the American country from its World Tour (1984-1985). Leaving aside the controversies in between, I Want to Break Free is a music that broke schemes and stereotypes.

Queen was a Rock band led by the vocalist Freddie Mercury that saw the light for the first time in 1970. On their eleventh album entitled << The Works >> Queen mixed some electronic music with Rock, a question that defined the album as a return of the band to its original genre. With a total of 9 songs, among which I Want to Break Free stands out, Queen managed to cause a stir in the United Kingdom, Europe and Latin America, although it was seen with little liking in the United States.

The lyrics of the song speak above all about "freedom", and that nuance that mixes with love and human pain. The musicalization begins with a slight instrumental touch, and then goes along with the rhythm of the electric guitar, the drums, the bass, the synthesizers, the acoustic guitar and the rhythm box, a musical arrangement that forces your shoes to move and shake head. As for the video, well I think Queen wanted to embody their message of gender freedom. Of course, for the beliefs of the 1980s, few countries saw this as "a form of protest." Although the band only wanted to make a parody of the English soap opera Coronation Street, very famous there in the United Kingdom, the video was banned perhaps for representing a liberal form of a concept that was still Taboo. It was not until 1991 that said I Want to Break Free video ceased to be censored in the United States.

The 1980s pioneered the musical revolution. Great have been the successes that 41 years ago reshaped disco music, increasing rock's exposure to the world with songs that still delight our ears today. It was a great time for drums, bass, electric guitar, and synthesizers, opening up new perspectives for various musical genres such as pop. But something that is impossible to put aside is the message that such songs cultivated in their lyrics, among them, the empowerment of women and freedom of thought. Without a doubt, they will be years impossible to forget.
