How a Mediocre Day can Turn into a Cool One!

(Edited)

Yesterday was a day that started out to be just another day, one of those mediocre days, needed to take care of all shorts of chores. Those ones we (sorry: I) pile up because we (again sorry: I) don't necessarily like to them. Therefor I decided to push them out for later in the day to firstly attend to our HIVE community: curating and writing an article that I had to write; An article giving you all a different perspective on the whole COVID19 thingy.

While the Dutch government strategy was to go for herd immunity at first; They changed their strategy to flatten the curve which essentially meant: Lockdown; As most others countries in the world did. But there is reason to believe - supported by more and more scientists - we either achieved herd immunity already, or we are very close to achieving this. Anyway, in case you are interested, check my post of yesterday.

That was the fun part of the day; All chores still waiting, including cleaning my home. What better than to be accompanied by some cool music with laptop connected to the HIFI system to also allow for a cool sound. Last week one of my artist friends posted about the new album by Regis, and had to listen this one. Pretty ok, very minimal, mostly off beat, at times kinda experimental. YouTube was the source and autoplay continued with all sort of ok to bearable electronic tracks.

And then...

When the kicks came in first, I not only felt like dancing; In fact, my body started moving to the sounds as if I was not having cleaning tools in my hands and doing whatever one does with those. Suddenly my face that showed a neutral expression before (well, I didn't look in the mirror, so I don't really know how I looked to others, but I guess it was neutral) turned into a happy smiley face!

All thanks to Floating Points!

I still remember the first time I heard this guy playing in my tiny city of Amsterdam. It was in one of our oldest and probably most well known cultural music centre: Paradiso. It was either during one of the first ADE events, but more likely during a 5daysoff event. Well, doesn't matter too much. I remember vividly I was pulled by a few friends into the Paradiso because I had to listen to Floating Points, an artist my friends totally loved! Sometime during the afternoon, early evening maybe (still light outside), the floor more then half empty, the guy high above us on stage, creating whatever he wanted to created. Somehow I didn't like what I was hearing - well, didn't like is a big word - Somehow I was not pulled into his music. Could've had to do with the sound system of Paradiso, this is never to good for electronic music, the system is designed for bands. Sound technicians can do a lot to adapt for different styles of music, but they can't turn the world upside down. Anyway, while at first I didn't want to tell my friends, I was not so pleased with what I was hearing, I continued listening and hoping it would become better. But it didn't. Fortunately, my friends got bored as well and started telling me they would not have expected he would do this. "His productions are so super good", they told me over and over again. "What we hear now has nothing to do with his real skills", and so on and so fort. We decided to leave.

Due to that experience, I never really took the effort to explore his works, or even check his gig recordings. It was on my todo list, but this list is so full of todo listings, this list is more like an archive list.

From time to time when I have some music service in auto-play mode I get surprised, like today: a track that touched me heart, induced goosebumps and the natural urge to dance. To my surprise: This was Floating Point! It happened to me before, so definitely I need to check this guy a bit more in detail, and certainly I need to add him to my playlists so I hear his works more regularly.

NJOY & STAY SANE
