Whats up people! Happy start of the week! This time I come to recommend three #MathRock songs to start the week.
Math Rock is a genre that I like a lot because of the variety of changes it has, because the structures of this genre are not usually so linear or repetitive, but they create different sections and vary a lot in metrics and time signatures, which makes it quite complex and fun to listen to (at least for me haha). This is not a commercial genre but I'm sure at least rock fans will enjoy it. Here are these 3 gems:

¡Que dice la gente! Feliz inicio de semana. En esta oportunidad vengo a recomendarles tres canciones de #MathRock para iniciar la semana.
El Math Rock es un género que me gusta muchísimo debido a la variedad de cambios que tiene, pues las estructuras de este género no suelen ser tan lineales ni repetitivas, sino que crean secciones diferents entre sí y varían mucho en métricas de compás, lo cual lo hace bastante complejo y divertido de escuchar (al menos para mi jaja). Este no es un géneros comercial pero estoy segura que al menos los fanáticos del rock lo van a disfrutar. Aquí están estas 3 gemas:
Dead Ends - Chon
Dead Ends es un amor de canción, aunque no tiene letra los acordes en la guitarra me parecen super tiernos y me inspiran tranquilidad, de hecho, hay algo en el sonido de estos que me recuerda mucho a Mac Demarco, asi que si les gusta Mac puede que conecten con esta canción.
Desde el principio se puede notar ese vibe romántico en los arpegios de la guitarra, luego (a los 0:26 segundos) empiezan a sonar los acordes que tanto me encantan y estos toman total protagonismo al rededor del minuto 1:12 al 1:34 (suenan hermosos💜).
Esta canción en particular no tiene un coro ni una melodía principal, es mas bien un tema que varía constantemente a medida que avanza, y apesar de ser una canción sin estructura típica esta mantiene un orden y cambios lógicos. Otra cosa buena de este tema es que es bastante corto, dura 2:30 minutos, una duración breve para ser Math Rock pero eso no le quita lo bueno, más bien, creo que es mejor para quienes no acostumbran escuchar este tipo de música, ya que es un tema corto y cero pesado, espero les guste.
Dead Ends is a love song, although it doesn't have lyrics the guitar chords seem to me super cute and inspire me tranquility, in fact, there is something in the sound of this song that reminds me a lot of Mac Demarco, so if you like Mac you might connect with this song.
From the beginning you can notice that romantic vibe in the guitar arpeggios, then (at 0:26 seconds) the chords that I love so much start to sound and they take full prominence around minute 1:12 to 1:34 (they sound beautiful💜).
This song in particular doesn't have a chorus or a main melody, it's more like a theme that varies constantly as it goes on, and despite being a song without a typical structure it maintains a logical order and changes. Another good thing about this song is that it is quite short, it lasts 2:30 minutes, a short duration to be Math Rock but that does not take away the good thing, rather, I think it is better for those who are not used to listen to this type of music, as it is a short and not heavy song, I hope you like it.
Born In Space - Owane
Born In Space es una especie de Math Rock con vestigios de Vaporwave. Apenas le den play notarán que la intro (que es buenísima) tiene ese estilo de vaporwave con samples y una batería super épica, para luego a los 40 segundos entrar a la parte Math Rock donde el guitarrista se luce. Así continua la canción, variando entre secciones de math rock y vaporwave.
La melodía principal es bastante pegajosa, es la que se escucha del minuto 1:40 al 1:50 y se repite en varias otras partes del tema, digamos que esta melodía es lo más cercano a un coro que hay. Otra cosa genial es que el solo de sintetizador tiene lenguaje jazz (incluso tiene el típico lick) asi que es notable que Owane es un grupo que toma referencias de diversos géneros y las incluye en su música.
Mi parte favorita es la última sección de la canción (a partir del 4:40) porque es la parte más pesada y aquí la batería tiene mayor presencia, es cuando más se siente el estilo de Math Rock en la canción. Me encanta este tema y creo que los guitarristas que me leen lo amarán.
Born In Space is a kind of Math Rock with traces of Vaporwave. As soon as you play it you will notice that the intro (which is really good) has that vaporwave style with samples and super epic drums, and then after 40 seconds we get into the Math Rock part where the guitarist shines. The song continues like this, varying between math rock and vaporwave sections.
The main melody is quite catchy, it's the one you hear from minute 1:40 to 1:50 and it's repeated in several other parts of the song, let's say that this melody is the closest thing to a chorus there is. Another cool thing is that the synth solo has jazz language (it even has the typical lick) so it's noticeable that Owane is a band that takes references from various genres and includes them in their music.
My favorite part is the last section of the song (from 4:40) because it's the heaviest part and here the drums have more presence, it's when you can feel the Math Rock style in the song the most. I love this track and I think the guitar players that read me will love it.
Shibuya - Covet
Shibuya es un tema que a mi parecer transmite ánimo y felicidad. Esta canción dura casi 6 minutos y tiene cambios de sección practicamente en cada minuto.
Los primeros 15 segundos del tema tienen una base de batería que me encanta, con muchísimas notas fantasmas en el redoblante, luego cambian y la guitarra pasa a tener mayor protagonismo, tocando una misma melodía por casi un minuto entero (del 0:50 al 1:49) hasta que (y aquí es donde empiezo con los termino musicales, sorry) realizan un cambio en el que tocan dos compases de 7/4 y caen en lo que para mi es la parte más atravesada de la canción, donde la guitarra empieza a hacer una frase que varía demasiado entre métricas (del 1:55 al 2:29).
Mi parte favorita como la más cursi de la canción 😅 Esto va del minuto 3:00 al 4:00, en esta sección la guitarra electrica hace notas largas con el pedal y lo genial es que la batería empieza a hacer pequeños cambios que se van cruzando y creando tensión (3:37), si escuchan estos cambios en el groove de la batería se darán cuentan que son complejos y como baterista les digo que este groove requiere tener nivel en independencia corporal para ejecutarlo.
Por último, cierran el tema volviendo al motivo melódico de la primera parte, algo que se hace mucho en el Math Rock, pues aunque sean temas que no siempre tienen un modelo de "estrofa - coro" si se acostumbra a establecer un motivo principal y retomarlo de vez en cuando durante el tema o al final del mismo. Acá como vemos lo retomaron al final.
Es una canción increible y creo que la pueden disfrutar muchísimo, sobre todo si tocan guitarra o batería ya que estos instrumentos destacan demasiado en esta pieza.
Shibuya is a song that I think conveys encouragement and happiness. This song lasts almost 6 minutes and has section changes practically every minute.
The first 15 seconds of the song have a drum base that I love, with lots and lots of ghost notes on the snare drum, then they change and the guitar becomes more prominent, playing the same melody for almost a whole minute (from 0:50 to 1: 49) until (and this is where I start with the musical terms, sorry) they make a change where they play two bars of 7/4 and fall into what for me is the most traversed part of the song, where the guitar starts doing a phrase that varies too much between metrics (from 1:55 to 2:29).
My favorite part as the cheesiest of the song 😅 This goes from minute 3:00 to 4:00, in this section the electric guitar makes long notes with the pedal and the great thing is that the drums begin to make small changes that are crossing and creating tension (3:37), if you listen to these changes in the groove of the drums you will realize that they are complex and as a drummer I tell you that this groove requires a level in body independence to execute it.
Finally, they close the song returning to the melodic motif of the first part, something that is done a lot in Math Rock, because although they are songs that do not always have a "verse - chorus" model, it is customary to establish a main motif and return to it from time to time during the song or at the end of it. Here, as we can see, they picked it up at the end.
It's an incredible song and I think you can enjoy it a lot, especially if you play guitar or drums as these instruments stand out a lot in this piece.

Me encanta como vas poniendo los segundos de la canción para fijarnos en ese instante.
Soy guitarrista, más que amar las canciones (brutales, por cierto), es la forma en como las relatas, no es común leer esto.
En la segunda canción antes del minuto 4:40 se crea el ambiente perfecto para darle protagonismo a la batería.

pd. canción 3, Q: cuantos efectos especiales quieren? A: SI! jajjaj
pd. 2, no te recuerda el sonido al grupo polyphia? (en la canción finale, tiene buena batería)
Mate! How good is Owane?! It amazes me and pisses me off in equal parts how effortless he makes it look... And the drumming! I'll have to check out the others.
