LET'S TALK ABOUT GREAT BASS PLAYERS

Howdy, Hivers. On many occasions I have covered several bands with my electric bass and as a bass player, I have been asked which are the best bass players or the best known of the bands to which I do these reviews and covers, in this was born the idea of also talk a little of the member of the bands that may be ignored, which are the bass players; but although it seems arrogant to say it and more by a bass player himself, the bass plays an extremely important role in any group for the harmonic and melodic importance it represents. You may not have even heard the name "Larry Graham" but of all the bassists we are dealing with one of the creators of Slap, even in his day he had the pseudonym Larry "Slap" Graham. In the 60's and 70's, a new technique was revolutionizing the way of playing the electric bass and the most interesting thing is that it attracted much more attention and that is how this bassist became widely known, in addition to having formed part of the band of "Prince" in their live concerts.

En muchas ocasiones he realizado cover de diversas bandas con mi bajo eléctrico y como bajista, me han preguntado cuales son los mejores bajistas o los más conocidos de las bandas al cual les hago estas reseñas y covers, en esto nace la idea de también hablarles un poco del miembro de las bandas que tal vez sea ignorado, que son los bajistas; pero aunque parezca arrogante decirlo y más por un propio bajista, el bajo juega un rol sumamente importante en cualquier agrupación por la importancia armónica y melódica que representa. Tal vez ni siquiera hayan escuchado el nombre de “Larry Graham” pero de todos los bajistas estamos ante uno de los creadores del Slap, incluso en sus tiempos tenía el seudónimo de Larry “Slap” Graham. En la década de los 60´s y 70´s una nueva técnica estaba revolucionando la forma de tocar el bajo eléctrico y lo más interesante es que cada vez llamaba mucho más la atención y es asi como se hace mayormente conocido este bajista, además de haber formado parte de la banda de “Prince” en sus conciertos en vivo.

MUSICAL HISTORY

"Larry Graham" was born in Texas and although not much is known about his musical beginnings and childhood, it is well known that he came to revolutionize the way of playing the electric bass. He is a bass player known for playing funk and soul with a very dedicated way and full of strength and feeling, he was part of the funk nothing "Sly & the Family Stone" in the 60's that was not very long, This is due to some drawbacks of substance use. At this stage he carries out a personal project where he is the leader, releasing several singles. Throughout the 80's and 90's he stayed in various musical projects that also promoted the careers of other musicians and singers and it is in the 90's that he joins the live band of the singer and musician "Prince" participating in many of his productions and concerts. Undeniably Larry, despite the fact that he is no longer so well known today, marked an era for his playing and for being one of the forerunners of the slap style.

“Larry Graham” nace en Texas y a pesar de que no se conoce mucho sobre sus inicios e infancia musical, es bien sabido que llegó para revolucionar la forma de tocar el bajo eléctrico. Es un bajista conocido por tocar el funk y el soul con una forma muy entregada y llena de fuerza y sentimiento, formó parte de la nada de funk “Sly & the Family Stone” en los 60´s que estuvo un período no muy largo, esto debidos a algunos inconvenientes de consumo de sustancias. En esta etapa realiza un proyecto personal en donde es el líder, lanzando varios sencillos. A lo largo de los 80´s y 90´s se mantuvo en varios proyectos musicales que impulsaron también en la carrera de otros músicos y cantantes y es en los 90´s que se une a la banda en vivo del cantante y músico “Prince” participando en mucha de sus producciones y conciertos. Indiscutiblemente Larry a pesar de que actualmente ya no es tan conocido, marcó una época por su forma de tocar y por ser uno de los precursores del estilo slap.
