Music: "Swod - Sekunden", album review by bonzopoe [EN / ES]

As with rock and other genres, electronic music has a large number of styles and sub-genres, ranging from the most strident to the most danceable, going through the experimental and even the sublime, and close to the latter is that electronic music that has the ability to hug you and transmit its warmth to you at times without us noticing it consciously. Oliver Doerell and Stephan Wöhrmann, the two German musicians who call themselves Swod, achieve both with Sekunden, their second album.

After the excellent reception of his debut album, entitled Gehen, full of promise for the future and a refreshing approach due to the mixture of electronic music and elements of classical music, highlighting the importance given to the piano in its compositions, this album, presented three years, reaffirms the quality of the proposal and the maturity and balance achieved.

Swod's music is ethereal, atmospheric, and has the perfect balance between electronic experimentation and contemporary classical music. The pieces are acoustic, with the piano as the main protagonist, and a more minimalist and intimate approach than in his previous album, and are seasoned with small dialogues, simple background programming, and subtle distortions and ambient noises, creating a different but highly accessible sound that catches and caresses, a sound that invites you to dream and fly.

On this album, instead of going the easy way to play with the sonic tricks that can be achieved in a studio, the duo focused more on creating songs, creating more complex and minimal melodies, where each note has a well-defined specific gravity, and they develop better, making the album as a whole feel very cohesive. If you are looking for something quiet, but not simple, with which to relax, the music on this album may be for you.

Igual que sucede con el rock y otros géneros, la música electrónica tiene una gran cantidad de estilos y sub-géneros, que van de lo más estridente a lo más bailable, pasando por lo experimental e incluso lo sublime, y cercano a esto última está aquella música electrónica que tiene la capacidad de abrazarte y tranmitirte su calidez a veces sin que lo notemos de manera consciente. Oliver Doerell y Stephan Wöhrmann, los dos músicos alemanes que se hacen llamar Swod, logran ambas cosas con Sekunden, su segundo disco.

Después de la excelente recepción de su disco debut, titulado Gehen, lleno de promesas a futuro y un enfoque refrescante debido a la mezcla de música electrónica y elementos de la música clásica, destacando la importancia dada al piano en sus composiciones, este disco, que ve la luz tres años años, nos reafirma la calidad de la propuesta y la madurez y equilibrio alcanzados.

La música de Swod es etérea, paisajista, atmosférica, y tiene el balance perfecto entre la experimentación electrónica y la música clásica contemporánea. Las piezas son acústicas, con el piano como principal protagonista, y un enfoque más minimalista e íntimo que en su album anterior, y están aderezadas con pequeños diálogos, sencillas programaciones de fondo, y sutiles distorsiones y ruidos ambientales, creando un sonido diferente pero sumamente accesible, un sonido que atrapa y acaricia, un sonido que invita a soñar y a volar.

En este disco, en vez de irse por el camino fácil de jugar con los trucos sonoros que se pueden lograr en un estudio, el dúo se centró más en la creación de canciones, creando melodías más complejas y mínimas, en donde cada nota tiene un peso específico bien definido, y se desarrollan mejor, logrando que el álbum en su conjunto se siente muy cohesivo. Si buscas algo tranquilo, pero no simple, con que relajarte, la música de este disco puede ser para ti.
