My Actifit Report Card: May 16 2021

avatar

A played a couple of practice rounds at the local nine basket disc golf course. I was just using a couple of fairway discs and an overstable throwing putter disc. I scored a -1 and even on the rounds.

I can usually reach most of the baskets on this easy course with a fairway driver. There is one hole that I come up short on though. At least it makes a birdie a possibility on most of the holes but my accuracy and putting could still use some improvement. I could never reach most of the baskets from the tee before and it feels good to be able to now.

The only issue now is getting the throws to go where I want. I tend to like flippy lightweight discs and sometimes the wind can get them off course. I was a little worried about hitting a car today but the disc was just stable enough to fade back onto the fairway and land pin high.

A flowering bush that I saw when out walking Doggie:

I almost started mining another crypto coin when I got excited about how it uses a new "time and space" method of mining instead of the usual proof of work algorithm. The more I read about it though, the more it seemed like I was already a bit late to the game. It felt like I could see myself compulsively purchasing a bunch of new USB disc drives for crypto mining.

Been there done that, lol. New hardware is fun to get sometimes but I'm not sure what to do with it after it runs out of usefulness. I'm happy doing what I'm doing now because it does not take a lot of energy or esoteric hardware.

Unfortunately one of the new exchanges that I just started trading on closed its doors for now. I guess hackers made off with .1 BTC from my understanding. Lucky for me I did not lose much of anything but it really gets old when this kind of stuff happens.

Thanks for reading! I always value your support and comments. The pictures were taken by me with my Galaxy S9+. Text and graphics copyright lightsplasher & litesplasher.

That beauty of a bush is a rhododendron. I love them, they are so beautiful, and their flowers last for a very long time.

Sounds like a break-even day on the course.

I have come to realize that I cannot trust crypto at all. There is no safety in it.

There are so many of these flowering bushes this time of year. I really like seeing them all when I'm out walking Doggie.

Well, at least some crypto seems to be holding value to a degree. It just seems very tough to figure out what will and what won't work out. A lot of stuff I thought would do fine did not work out, even though it seemed technically superior and use less energy.

This is just a guess but perhaps if there is less real need for purchasing stuff, i.e. most people are well enough off that their needs are well met, crypto will become more stable and a safer investment.

I can only hope. Stable would be nice, but, I am sure that is where the excitement is, right? :))

Some crypto is holding its value, but, of course, the price isn't amazing like the more volatile ones are.

We can only watch the show and make more popcorn. :))

I am not sure which one you were talking about, but I was reading up on Chia and thinking about setting up a rig. Not sure how long it would pay well. After I could use the storage so it would not be a bust.

Chia was what I was thinking about setting up too. I think it would take a pretty large bank of 5TB USB drives on a powered hub to get enough of a chance to make a block in a few months but I'm not for sure certain. By the time that was done the difficulty could be through the roof and there are no mining pools as yet. I'm personally not sure what to do with a bunch of 5TB drives but maybe you could use them for video. I don't know, it would be kind of fun to try if you are game for it though.

This kind of thing has not worked out to well for me historically, perhaps because I'm too cheap to commit enough resources into something without seeing a good potential for return on investment. I also tend to bet on the wrong things and do stuff like sell Dogecoin for Cardano, lol.

We started mining for ETH and wanted to expand but for ages you cannot beg, borrow, or steal a graphics card! So I was looking into Chia. The priced out a small rig and it peaked my interest, but like you say how much will one have to pour into it till they get some pools...
This was what I was seeing.

That's what I was looking at too. It seems like the key takeaway for me was:

Anyway, 91 blocks on a single 10TB HDD should win a block every three months or so — once every 84.3 days at the current netspace, which continues to increase rapidly.

So... one would have to start hoarding a fair amount of disc space for success.
