My Actifit Report Card: September 25 2020
It was raining and windy on and off most of the morning and in the afternoon at least the rain stopped. I headed down to the local disc golf course for a quick nine basket round. I was only playing with five discs again and still focus on learning my new Firebird, Sword and Chariot discs.
Here's the Sword disc close to the hole six basket:
For a windy day it worked really well to get down near the basket off a slight downhill throw. I did not manage to make the birdie from here but it was close to my range. I did manage to make a couple other birdies with the Sword disc and one with the Firebird. I ended with a -2 for the round because I had a bogey on one of the longer holes.
I'm pretty happy with that on the course. It is one of the easier courses around here but it was blowing hard today.
I've been missing my putts with my Harp disc and wondering a bit about it. I usually use a Link disc for most of my short putts and a Harp when it is windy. I took a close look at the Harp disc and noticed that it is rather badly warped but the Link is still nice and flat.
The Harp is made from BT Medium Burst plastic and it is rather soft. It has been fine for almost a year so it is a bit odd that it is warped so badly now. I don't remember hitting any trees with it and I usually don't throw it hard or bend it around. I have recently changed my grip and have been gripping the disc a lot tighter. Anyone else have problems warping a putter disc?
In any case I retired the BT Medium Burst Harp and I am using my VIP Harp now. It is a nice orange metal flake plastic and it is good for longer throws. I guess I'll start using it for a secondary short distance wind putter. The plastic is not as grippy when wet and it tends to slide around the basket more though.
Maybe it is just me but a warped disc does not work as well for shorter putts. I tend to throw without a lot of spin and loft discs with less power. This gives some problems with wobble from off axis torque on my putts. If you add a warped disc to the mix it does not help, (or at least I don't think so, based on experience throwing badly warped frisbee discs.)
The advantage of not throwing so hard is that usually if I miss, the putts still land very close to the basket.
