Crazy freeway emergency and a walk around Mall of America - Actifit: March 18 2021
So I had to go pick up my son at the Mall of America where he works. It’s about 20 minutes from where I live. All of a sudden about 2 miles from the mall the traffic stopped dead and emergency vehicles came from everywhere all at once. Then traffic was diverted off the freeway and it was shut down completely.
I only found out much later after I got home that it was no standard accident. Someone on a pedestrian bridge started shooting at cars on the freeway. (Yeah, at the cars just ahead of me!) Then the police starting shooting at him and he killed him self and fell into the freeway! I’m so glad I was just far enough back that I didn’t get tangled in that or witness it. This is is news item.
So then I got the mall and texted my son. He wasn’t answering so I went into the mall. I figured I might as well get some steps while I was waiting for him. So I walked and walked, and no text. I decided to do some mall photography. It’s quite a place.
It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but the robot is probably at least twice as tall as me.
Lego Land is always fun to visit.
So I kept walking around, taking pictures and checking my phone for messages from my son.
Everything closed at 7 and it was now well past. So employees were locking up and turning off lights and the place was emptying out.
But that made it easier to take pictures. I love the window displays. In my next life I’m going to decorate store windows for a living!
The center of the mall is an amusement park with lots of rides and roller coasters and attractions. It’s always a little eerie being there when the rides are shut down and the place is dark.
Mostly I did loops all around the shops on each floor. I discovered it’s about 1,000 steps to complete one circle. Cool, huh?
And there’s so much to see. I passed Build-a-Bear Workshop where I used to take my kids when they were small.
And Pink, the Garage and Swarovski.
Okay so I finally heard from my son. He texted me that he was getting a ride home from a friend!!
That’s okay, I suppose. I enjoyed my walk at the mall. And, knowing that something horrible had happened just ahead of me on the freeway, I felt happy to be alive.
Thanks for visiting!

Poppin in to say hey! Quite the craziness for you this week lolz! Hearing you talk about abandoned rides makes me think of like a Scooby Doo amusement park episode or something. Glad you all okay though!
So good to see you, @enginewitty! Thanks for the well wishes and back at you! ❤️
Its a good virtual ride of the Mall of America. By the way 10000 is a good activity count in a day.
Thank you! And glad you enjoyed the virtual ride. 😁
1,000 steps to complete a circle! That's a lot.
Lovely snapshots of the mall. It's a good thing you are safe. ☺️🍀
Thanks @kemmyb! Thank goodness the authorities acted quickly and no one on the freeway was hurt.
Life is very unpredictable. It's a blessing to sometimes have these narrow escapes.
Yet sad for others :(
Yes, I feel terrible for people with mental health issues, especially at this moment in history. I think it is pushing more people to the brink. Thank you for stopping by, @ireenchew, and I hope all is well with you.
That's just crazy!!
All these people just lashing out with their guns
Glad you are okay and so calm about it too - I would have been totally freaking out
I took up a course in fashion all those years ago, and when they asked me what in fashion I'd like to do - I said window dressing - it is like creating your own little make-believe world in the window huh :D
Well, yes I was very freaked out! But by the time I knew what to freak out about, it was long past. 😅
Window dressing really would be a fun career!
