Even with all the attention Blender has been getting with all its recent amazing dev, I think Blender is still the most underrated piece of software. It is just amazing how much power this has - and its free! Open source has really blossomed into a world class contender.
People can use Blender to make 3D parts or as the most comprehensive story telling tools ever... What a time to be alive.
The best part is that Blender is less resource intensive than industry standards. This is a trend I have seen with open source software. They may lack some high end features at the bleeding edge. Those are less likely to be used by small scale indie projects anyways. When it comes to the main features open source software has come to a point where they are viable or even superior alternatives to closed source paid software.
Blender has evolved a great deal during the last few years. Blender and Unreal Engine 5 are likely to be the go to software for independent creators in the future.
