Thai Life #2 - The Land that Health and Safety Forgot!

(Edited)

After 10 years in Thailand, there is still something deeply unsettling about sitting in a restaurant in a shopping mall that has an open flame BBQ and a pair of scissors to cut the burnt bits off the meat...

😅

And yet so appealing. Asia, where health and safety hasn't got mad, it's stayed mad.

Is having a grill right in the middle of the same table you eat at, mostly an Asian thing? I haven't seen anything like this here in Estonia, or not even any movies or photos around any other part of the world than Asian countries.

I think it's just Asia! Can you imagine the lawsuits in the US if someone burnt their little finger! Or the health and safety issues in Europe ?

I'd suggest that at least half the restaurants in the malls here have either BBQs or hotplates at the table!
My objection is simply that it's too hot sat at the table and why should I pay a restaurant to cook my own food!
